Craig Shelton - Movin' on Up?

From Rosie Saferstein's blog on njmonthly.com:

"Chef Craig Shelton has been named Culinary Director for Landmark Hospitality, owned by Frank and Jeanne Cretella.

Landmark Hospitality is the parent company for Stone House at Stirling Ridge in Warren, Liberty House Restaurant in Jersey City, Crave Caterers, the Valiant (a 97-foot yacht available for catered private events) and several other holdings."

Shelton, of Ryland Inn fame, was recently working with the owner of the Skylark Diner. I guess this is a promotion!

    I think the key phrase is "this is a promotion" ... as in good p/r !

    Would much rather see Chef Shelton return to the daily grind of his own kitchen versus the administrative duties for a foodie conglomerate.

      While I would like to see Craig Shelton back in the kitchen....a "foodie conglomerate?" Stone House, Liberty House, and I think some place in Staten Island does not a conglomerate make.

        conglomerate .... A corporation consisting of several companies in different businesses. Such a structure allows for diversification of business risks, but the lack of focus can make managing the diverse businesses more difficult.

        )

        restaurants + banquets + corp mtg center + yacht charters + caterers + destination weddings = foodie conglomerate!

        Doubtful a patron at the majority of these places or event locations is going to experience anything personally prepared by Chef Shelton.

      Well, as I posted on these boards several months ago, I thought the buzz surrounding the Skylark/Shelton partnership was nothing more than hype--I did not find the food to anywhere as good as the reviews led the public to believe. That said, we were at the Stone House back in February and really loved it--can't see any reason for them to change anything.

        Well, there goes the Skylark diner I'm guessing...between the beverage/wine person moving on, and the Chef leaving...If I had to bet, I'd say they are going to have a hard time keeping things as they were a few months ago ala NY Times review...
