positano-new italian restaurant middletown

hubby and me had dinner last nite at this new place.we were the only customers -but it was late-around 8.30 pm on a weekday.the ?owners were there and extended a warm welcome-i felt i was in the sets of the "sopranos".
the food was really good.
i had the tilapia in a white wine sauce with capers and olives-fish was soft and delicious-cooked to perfection.
husband wanted steak-they had run out-so they made veal with a mushroom sauce-which he said was good-but he is not a big veal fan.
i took home gnocchi in a spicy arrabiata sauce for my son-he is a connoisseur of pasta and liked his dish.
this is definitely a must eat again restaurant.

    Positano is now closed.

There's a sign in the window that a pizza place is coming soon. That ought to last at least a month or two. Can't anyone come up with something that isn't the same as 20 other places within a mile or two? (I doubt that's an exaggeration.)

One of the most dissappointing near-visits I've ever encountered in monmouth county. MJ's just opened across that hwy. Why would another pizza place even try?

At least MJ's has a bit more to offer than most pizza joints. They actually have decent burgers and I like their Fish & Chips.

Yes, the fish & chips are very tasty! I really hope MJ's sticks around.

I worry about the Tinton Falls location, which is only a few minutes from me. It's got to cost a ton of $$$ to keep a 300 year old building next to a waterfall up to code, and they don't ever really seem to be crowded.

Funny, I feel the same way.

My wife and I also felt it was a must eat again restaurant...Until we went again. I think it's fair to say that it was one of the worst dining experiences that we ever had. The hot antipasto was any thing but hot (excluding the fried calamari-that is made well) The stuffed mushrooms were not good. The clams casino were cold as was the eggplant rolitini. The soup of the day would have been better if we ate it at home out of a can. Last but least spaghetti puttenesta was just about the worst dist I've ever eaten at a restaurant. Tons of canned black olives, burnt garlic, not a hint of anchovy, and this dish should definitely not have a ton of cheese on it..If you want to eat this dish the way it should be prepared try it at Cafe Capri in East Rutherford.(Not a close drive by the way.) Positan0 is definitely on our do not visit again list.

A gf and I tried having lunch at Positano one Friday afternoon to find a handful of staff hanging out in the back kitchen; no one available up front. We took a look at the menu and felt $18.00 for a basic pasta dish to be a bit over the top for lunch, so we departed. As we headed out three men approached us and asked us why we were leaving....must have been people related to the management of this restaurant (I had to laugh at the Soprano reference above)...awkward first experience..if you could call it that.

If this is where I think it is, go early, then get dessert next door at Susie's Sweet Shop.
