North/Central Jersey Private Room

Hi everyone! My daughter and I want to hold her a small Sweet 16, with about 20 of her friends, plus 1 or 2 family members. We're looking for a restaurant with a private room where the girls can dance after eating. They don't have to have a DJ at the restaurant, because we can bring an iPod and speakers. The food should be pretty good, but also pretty basic, because some girls are picky eaters. Also, I'm trying to avoid a massively expensive extravaganza.

We're really open to all suggestions, and if you have a suggestion that's a little different than what I wrote before, we'd love to hear it. Thank you!

  1. I've also been looking at a few restaurants in New York, as well. As long as it's in the vicinity of North and Central Jersey, it should be fine. Thanks again.

    1. re: partytime

It may be too late for your party, but you might consider Steakhouse 85 in New Brunswick on Church Street. They aren't inexpensive, but they're not outrageous either. (Their private room is back behind the bar area.) The food is good, and the despite the name they have many seafood options. Strict vegetarians may have fewer choices, but I know that they will make their wedge salad without bacon, etc.. They have vegetable side dishes that are good and fairly large.

    2. Many years ago, we held our daughter's Sweet 16 party at the Battleground Country Club, in Manalapan. Like yours, it was for her friends (some boys included) with the only adults being my husband and me + the grandparents. It was in late June, so we did an outdoor bbq under a tent, and the menu was basic bbq fare -- burgers, hot dogs, etc. (We had the option of moving it indoors to one of their smaller rooms if it rained.) The staff did an excellent job, and the kds had a great time. It was not hideously expensive. Acc. to their website, they have Sweet 16 packages.

I've been to Battleground a number of times for private functions related to a women's organization I belonged to, and the food is pretty good.

You do not have to be a member to have a party there.
