According to Austinist, Restaurant Jezebel caught fire this morning, causing about $150K in damage.

I've never been, and now I wonder if I never will...

  1. If they reopen, I will definitely go. The restaurant deserves the business and the "animal rights" nuts deserve bastinado.

    1. Such a tragedy. That was my favorite place for a special occasion meal. Hope they can get it back like it was

This is such a tragedy that brought tears to my eyes. I had the most delicious salmon with chocolate there just a month ago to celebrate the milestone birthday of my friend. I'm going to keep that taste in my mouth forever. wish Vora strength to deal wit his, and Austin's, loss!

      2. Gaaaaaaargh! We planned on going there this week! I think I'm gonna cry. :(

Where else can we get our foie gras fix in Austin?

Maybe check out one of Parind's other joints. Simplicity up on Burnet or Braise over on e. 6th. He can use the business either way.

Yes, I just called Braise to offer up condolences and ask if they would be serving up any of Jezebel's dishes. The chef I spoke with said that all the food at Jezebel was a total loss - that just walking from the door to the back of the restaurant yesterday had him smelling of smoke after. But he said that they might look into serving some foie gras at Braise if they could get it in, and he took down my info. I'll post here if I hear back. So sad for them. He said they couldn't speculate as to the cause of the fire but couldn't rule anything out at this point. If it was activists I wanna go medieval.

Aquarelle lists it on the menu, but never had it.

Had some at Olivia just last week, with watermelon and thai chili, which sounds odd but worked really well. Olivia changes the menu a lot though, I don't see it listed right now.

Hey guys, my brother Andrew is the chef at Jezebel with Parind. Please go support them at the other places. They are going to get Jezebel back up and running, so don't give up on the yet. Its going to take some time, but they will be back and better than ever. I know they are just torn apart by this and are having a bad time and making some of the hardest decisions one can make about a business they love. Like I said....show your love and go to Simplicity and Braise they need it....and pass the word.

Headed to Simplicity tonight! I didn't even realize it was one of Parind's restaurants until I read it in this thread. I guess I missed the thread about them a while back.

                    thanks for the info, extrastiver.
it's clear that it's a much-beloved place so i wish your brother and parind the best.

                    1. re: extrastiver

Extrastiver, please let all your Jezebel friends know how much Austin food lovers adore and support that restaurant. I had one of the best birthday dinners of my life there last year. While I already visit Simplicity quite regularly, I will definitely make it a point to visit Braise for the first time this weekend, and I will urge my friends to do the same.

              2. Terrible news. Major loss for Austin. Please come back soon Jezabel!

                1. Wow, what terrible news. Jezebel was also my go-to place for an occasion meal, and I always ordered to foie gras, too. I do hope there is a nice insurance settlement and Jezebel re-opens soon. My condolences to the owner.
