Out of towner seeking advice for a business lunch

aml Jul 27, 2010 08:19 AM

I am coming to Minneapolis to take some colleagues out for lunch. I was thinking that a patio might be a nice summer option. The suggestions I have so far are:

-2012 (at the art centre)

The people that I am taking work near South Seventh Street and Marquette Ave South.

2012 seems great, nice setting and delicious seeming food; however, I am concered that it maybe too far from downtown.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so very much in advance.

I work at 9th/Marquette, and when I run during lunch, I sometimes head in that direction. Personally, I think 20.21 is too far unless you're going to drive or cab it. If you mean within walking distance only, it's too far. Masa or Vincent are your better choices. Zelo is right close, often used for business lunches and they have a patio (though not the most beautiful); Brit's has a nicer patio (multi-level) but the food is nothing to write home about.

Something to keep in mind, MN is about to enter it's hottest week of the year (heat index of 100 expected today), the first week of August I believe, so a patio might be torturous, especially in business attire. So, nice patio weather depends on person and the date.

True that Semanticantics - I walked over to Macy's for a salad today and I couldn't believe how many people were eating outside of Zelos. I like summer, but I despise this humidity! Does not seem like a great environment for a pleasant meal!

Ok. Thanks for the input so far.

Given that the general consensus is that patio = hot and sweaty in a business suit, I would welcome ANY suitable suggestion nearby the area I initially mentioned. Once again, I thank you!

This would add Mission to your list of choices. It has a nice, professional vibe, and a lot of options to placate a number of palates. Vincent and Zelo are better restaurants, but I feel as though Mission gets the lunch crowd a bit better. The daily omelet is a winner.

20.12 is in a museum, and not downtown.

Bank is a nice business lunch option.

The D'Amico Kitchen might be worth consideration if you're in an upscale Italian mood.

Also, I wouldn't give up on the patio idea. Yesterday it was in the mid 90's and humid. But today it's 75, low humidity and beautiful. The current 10 day forecast doesn't show us getting above the low 80's.

Which, for most women isn't too bad, but for guys wearing suits, depending on the guy, could be awful. Of course don't give up on patio idea, I just wouldn't plan around it with our weather patterns. Besides heat, there could be a tornado too!
