happy hour in santa monica

DATE NIGHT TONIGHT!

Looking for a nice spot that has great food at great prices. We love Shangri-La for their excellent plates of food at really good happy hour prices, but we need to try something new...

Restaurants don't seem to advertise happy hour too heavily. Hoping someone has a secret find they would love to share.

Thanks!

There are more, but those are the best ones. Lots of them do a second happy hour at Midnight

              1. We stumbled, starving, into Robata Bar on the (100 block of Santa Monica Blvd at 2nd) for happy hour today, Sunday, the happy hour is everyday from 5 to 7.

We had the miso soup, $5 not happy hour : ( really can't they reduce that?) but it was much needed and delicious after walking around in the rain.

The hh drinks are $5 and included red or white wine, sake, beer, a vodka fruity cocktail, and some other sake-apple type cocktail.

You can select 3 robata skewers from a hh list for $5. I had salmon (good but a tiny overcooked), eggplant w/miso (outstanding), asparagus (fine,) Friend had Chicken with green onions (good), chicken wings (she loved), asparagus. Served with dipping sauces: ponzu, spicy mustand, sweet ginger. They also offered chicken liver and heart, japanese peppers, shiitake mushroom, few more. The regular list offeres some creative parings.

There are also a few other $5 dishes. We both had the crispy rice cake with spicy tuna, 2 per order. We loved these. The server told us it is even better with yellowtail with hot peppers. Less sucessful was rock shrimp ceviche, there was just something really wrong with this. It had what seemed to be lukewarm soggy batter fried shrimp chunks on some chopped peppers or such although I fished a cold shrimp out of there too. I didn't eat most of it.

There is a great atmosphere, low key and loungy, good music, not too loud, very grown up but a couple kids walked out with a parent, I didn't know they were in there. A few tables in front, comfortable booths, a counter and bar. The tiny open kitchen is right there. Service was excellent from a nice blond young woman, I hope they appreciate her. She was quick, efficient, helpful and friendly.

We saw Bar Pintxos across the street. I is brighter and more cramped, but looks like they have a 6 fpr $6 of the small pintxos on bread and sangria and wine special. I think 4-6 but not sure. Also not sure if it applies to weekends. Not much posted in front.

                  1. Ocean Ave Seafood has Oyster Hour 4 pm-6 pm. Monday through Friday, featuring oysters at $1.50 each and an "Oyster Wine Sampler" that includes six oysters with three 2-oz glasses wine.

                    1. Zengo in Santa Monica Place. It was a Lovely Setting with Great drinks and the food was decent.
