Fairly cheap ocean front restaurant in Santa Monica??? Help!

DChristianRobert Jul 26, 2010 02:36 PM

So I'm taking 3 of my friends to go eat out since it's one of their birthdays... and I want to take them to an oceanfront restaurant. We were going to go eat at Ruby's on the Balboa pier but decided we wanted to go watch a movie after at the Village Theatre in Westwood, so now we're looking for a place to eat in Santa Monica...

I heard Back to the Beach is a nice place... but is it fairly cheap? Like we could each eat for less than $15?

Or any other places you guys know of? Ok Thanks!!!

Haha . . . what about a beach picnic with food from a good restaurant?

Umami Burger at Fred Segal's is about 5 blocks from the beach. Really good burgers.

there is a mexican restaurant at the very end of santa monica pier that is pretty good -- not great but not bad. prices would be around $15/each -- no alcohol.

there's also candle cafe on venice boardwalk http://www.yelp.com/biz/candle-cafe-a...

        or venice bistro - http://thevenicebistro.com/

both places in venice are pretty cheap.

these recommendations are all in very lively tourist areas, which is the opposite of back on the beach, which only had about 3 tables occupied tonight at about 7:30. all were sitting indoors not on the beach. I think the place is reasonable but i haven't been for dinner. To me the selling point of this place is outdoor seating on the beach.

If you go at Happy Hour both Shutters and Casa del Mar are very cheap (burgers and such for $5)

I agree with the chik who likes yoga...the burger at Casa del Mar is delicious. Also There's happy hour at FIG where between 5-6pm food and drink is 50% off.

It's about a 25 mile drive north on PCH, but Neptune's Net in Malabu is a good, cheap seafood shack right on the highway with a great view of the ocean. I had a basket of fried clam strips there on Sunday that really hit the spot.

The only negative to this place are the awful port-a-potty "restrooms" which some can't deal with. YMMV.

If I was going for this option, I would travel considerably less to the north and hit Malibu Seafood, just north of the Pepperdine campus on PCH, better food and real bathrooms.
