quiet dinner for 14 on the UWS?

  • 4

Hi all! I'm looking for a quiet restaurant for a large (~14) group on a Saturday night. Several members of the group are elderly, so quiet is important, as are not too many steps; we're also looking for a place with entrees between $15-$25. (I'd thought of Shun Lee, but after reading the reviews on this board am reconsidering.) Any help will be greatly appreciated!

  1. if you want [relative] quiet and you have that many people, your best bet is a private room...Compass is the first place that comes to mind. the regular menu would be out of your price range, but it might be worth a call to see if they could do a set menu or prix fixe for you since it's such a large group.

    1. First, I would not be so quick to dismiss Shun Lee West; we have entertertained groups of your size there very successfully over the years. However, another option might be Compass (www.compassrestaurant.com}; I am not certain what your time constraints are, but after 1930 or so, when the LIncoln Center customers depart, it can be very quiet. In any event, please let us know what you decide and how it works out.

      1. Cafe Luxembourg is not particularly quiet, as it's a crowded bistro and can get a bit loud, but the price range is right, the menu large enough to accomodate many food requests/needs, and there are zero steps...a lot of the customers are 60+ yrs-old (e.g. Al Pacino)...

        Another option would be Cesca
