Looking for a great place to eat in Lenox - fancy or casual. Just great, fresh food.

As far as IN Lenox goes..... I would recommend Alta or Church Street Cafe. Nudel is very small and can be hit or miss, but when they have a good night it is extraordinary. Most others aren't that great. Avoid Zinc at all costs and if you are willing to drive a little you could try out Rouge in West Stockbridge. They have been one of my favorite go to restaurants in the Berks.

Thanks. I've been reading about Nudel. Sounds worth checking out.

My wife and I went to Alta last night. It was Tanglewood on Parade so it was a little busier than your average summer evening in Lenox. A flight of Sauvignon Blanc and assorted reds started off the evening. We had the PEI Mussels in Pesto Cream. Very well balanced, delicious and rich. The Alta salad was nice and fresh. Baby spinach, apple smoked bacon, mandarin pieces and red onion. Very tasty but pricey at $11. The menu was very nice but we both could not resist the Colorado Rack of Lamb. Served with chopstick thin Asparagus(my favorite), mashed potatoes and a wonderful demi. I had mine midrare and my wife medium. Both plates were perfectly cooked and the Billi Billi Shiraz that we had to accompany the lamb was exquisite. Highly recommended!

Ate at Nudel last night, it was awfully good. Got there around 5:15 (opens at 5:30) as we had planned an early dinner by having an early lunch. Were third couple in line. Still was one empty table at 6PM, but then folks got turned away. Could hear the first party told "about 45 minutes", as they expect first tables to turn in 75 minutes. After we left we saw some of the parties that wouldn't wait at Alta, others at Zinc.

There are 4 2 tops with 2 4 tops along the long wall, across from there is one alcove that can seat 6, or two 3's (or two 2's), and the bar seats 5.

Couple weeks ago we stayed at the Lenox Club. We decided to eat there and had a marvellous meal. They cooked my lamb a perfect medium rare with a melange of separate vegetable sides. I also had a lovely roasted garlic bisque. The prices have tax included and they specify no tip. The only problem was paying. They wanted to just blithely place it on the room charge which we were not responsible for. Entrees were in the mid-twenties but include soup or salad. Deserts were 5. Not on the main drag, but we had a great meal on the veranda overlooking the croquet courts.

Is this restaurant open to non-guests, non-members? I've heard of it but this piques my curiosity.

I'm pretty sure that it is a private club, but I am sure that members can have guests stay there.

You can stay as a non-member; the prices are just higher. I'm pretty sure that the restaurant is open to the public, although the 2 other tables were known quantities to the establishment. I'd call and ask.
