Scarpetta - now open at Thomson Hotel

Just read on Blogto an interview with chef Scott Conant. According the article the restaurant opened on Friday. I imagine it might have been a pretty exclusive opening but I am hoping some CHers will report back soon!

Here is the interview if anyone is interested (pretty boring questions in my opinion):

I can't find a website yet for the restaurant but it is located on Bathurst south of King.

EDIT: Hmm, while I was looking more for a website I saw this write up on Toronto Life and in the comments someone mentioned they had a reservation for tonight but it was cancelled because they weren't ready yet.

Anyway, should be open very soon

Yeah I tried going last night but no luck lol. The restaurant doors were closed, lights were up and two girls looked liked they were doing some sort of work to the wall.

I had a reservation set for tonight at 8 however I canceled it. I don't feel like handing a new place $300 for 2 people until its been proven...

We ended up going to Sidecar and had a great meal. The $18 steak-frites is a great deal...although the meat was a tad under seasoned but cooked perfectly.

I went in this evening and was told that the restaurant wouldn't be open until Wednesday. Clearly it was open because there were people sitting at tables and a maitre d' telling people such as me that it wasn't open. I sort of questioned what she meant, but she just said it wasn't open until Wednesday. Looked nice.

It was likely a private event or test run of some sort. Given the issues they've been having getting the place open, they probably want to work out any remaining kinks before a full-scale public opening.

For sure that's what it was.

I live across the street and walk my pup past the window every day. Most of the time when it's full, half the diners are wearing waiter/kitchen outfits so I assume they are doing tastings/training etc. Can't wait to try it though.

Scarpetta will be opening on Friday, July 30th if all goes to plan.

I assume their launch-date is a moving target at this point... No point in them opening on a set-date if they're not ready.

i'm pretty sure their opening is dependent on their liquor license. i can't imagine having had an opening party over a week ago and still working on issues with food/staff/service.

I am a big fan of Scarpetta in New York (as you can tell by my CH profile). I hope the food is as good as that one. Enjoy, Toronto!

ylsf, any news on The Counter or Scarpetta today? Wanted a reservation for Saturday but opted for Beast instead (and Hoof Cafe for brunch).

It opened today, like I said.
