Good Jewish Deli? Looking for Lox, Matzo Ball Soup, Rye, and Half Sour Pickles

Even though I'm Japanese, Jewish deli food is sort of a comfort food for me. Is there a Nate & Al equivalent down here? And If you're going to tell me to go to Jerry's Famous, you can go to hell.

I have had Katz's Deli deliver. I don't remember costs being too bad.

Ba-Tempte makes very good pickles of various varieties, including the half-sour type. The Ralph's Supermarket in Encinitas carries Ba-Tempte, including the half sour.

No Jerry's Famous in SD, so no worries. Unfortunately, there is no good Jewish deli in SD.

We wait to hit up Brent's Deli in Northridge and Westlake Village, then bring down a ton of food to freeze. We have 2 loaves of rye bread, corned beef, pastrami and tongue in our freezer right now. They do deliver to SD, although it's probably comes with a high delivery charge.

You're out of luck, I'm afraid. I wait until LA to meet my deli cravings.

Sour pickles can be found at Whole Foods market - Bubbie's are exemplary. Bread and Cie in Hillcrest makes a fantastic authentic Jewish rye bread.

nothing here even comes close to Nate & Al's, Brent's, Canter's, Langer's, Barney Greengrass, or anything you'll find back East.

if you're willing to settle for mediocre at best, try DZ Akins. or if you're truly desperate for a fix and don't want to drive up to LA, Brent's Deli supposedly delivers to SD...though i imagine the delivery charge must be obscene.

The Matzo Ball Soup is actually one of DZ's better offerings. Rye and pickles, not so much.

Nate & Al's has really slipped. It is a mere shadow of its former life. Kind of down at the heels, and most all catagories of its offerings are very pedestrian.

Ya, it isn''t what it was, but it had the sort of offerings I was looking to find down here.
