Banh Mi Zon in the East Village

Banh Mi Zon is a quite boite, hole on the wall on 6th street which makes fantastic intense sandwiches, which for me are by far the best in the city. The Grilled Pork Pattie is a triple pig feast - the beautiful freshly grilled patties, Vietnamese ham, and a whacking big smear of rich pate. This small place with one cook concentrates on getting just about everything right. The vegi spring rolls jump with mushroom flavor. The mango salad, a bit sweeter than I would find ideal, was made zesty with the inclusion of pickled scallions.
There are quite a few Banh Mi outlets in New York and calling one the best is a bit of a fools' game, but for me this place leads the pack by more than a few lengths.
