Duck NC
Am going w/the family to the Outer Banks next week and am staying in Duck. Anyone have any restaurant suggestions close by? Also about 15 years ago was visiting Nags Head and went to a restaurant called Owens. Is it still there and if so is it good?

Just got back from Corolla and had a great time at Metropolis. Nice tapas restaurant with a great drink menu and local ingredients. Here is the website: http://www.metropolisobx.com/

Was it Sam and Omie's. They have been there for 70 years. What kind of food are you interested in. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, BBQ, country, farmily or fine dining. Lone Cedar in Nags Head is a good one too.

Sam & Omie's is an institution in the area and is very casual and serves breakfast, lunch & dinner. They are known for their award-winning clam chowder. Personally, I would do breakfast or lunch there - save dinner for a nicer place.
For lunch you MUST visit John's Drive-In. We were just in Duck a couple of weeks ago and visited this place twice during our week. I used to live in KDH and had never been to John's, even though its been around for a long time. They have great fried fish, pork bbq, burgers, etc., and their milkshakes are incredible. I highly recommend the rockfish boat and a chocolate peanutbutter banana milkshake!
In Duck, I recommend the Roadside Raw Bar & Grill right in the heart of Duck, on Duck Road. Fresh and local ingredients, very casual and very small. No fryer! Small menu.
I desperately wanted to get to Blue Point and Kill Devil Grill but ran out of time. These places are recommended often on CH, especially Blue Point.
Oh, and I highly recommend the Maritime Forest kayak tour available through Kittyhawk Sports. Beautiful tour through the marshlands and canals in the maritime forest. We took our two kids and they loved it. Very reasonably priced and relaxing. Afterwards, head over to John's or Sam & Omie's for lunch!
Enjoy your vacation!

Sunset has a great water front view and serves fresh seafood and steaks for breakfast, lunch or dinner. They also have outdoor dining. The Blue Point is open for lunch or dinner with wonderful water front views. The Fin and Claw has outstanding seafood also. The Colington Cafe in Kill Devil Hills is open for fine dining at dinner and serves outstanding cuisine. Lighthouse Bagels is outstanding open for breakfast, lunch and dinner serving casual salads and sandwiches. Ocean Front Grill is excellent fine dining for dinner only located on the water front.

re: phoenikia
For a party that large, you'll need to eat on an off night...not Wed or Thursday, and call ahead if you can. Neither of these restaurants has room for large parties, butr you can try. I wold recommend the Grill Room in TimBuckII. They've recently had a HUGE turnaround in their service and quality of food and they can easily accomodate a large group. http://www.grillroomobx.com/

re: SweetPhyl
SweetPhyl,
wanted to thank you for the recommendation for the Grill Room. We ended up having a group of 20, and the Grill Room worked out well. The only minor problem was that they ran out of wahoo and mahi mahi for some of the mixed grills ordered by our table, so some people ended up with skewers of shrimp or scallops instead of fin fish. Everyone seemed happy with their mains, even if they ended up with substitutions.
I really liked their chowder, crab cake, and key lime pie. Easily the best meal I had in the Corolla area on this trip.
Also tried Sun Fish Grill for lunch, where I tried the daily jambalaya, and the fried green tomatoes. Decent place for a casual lunch.
Ocean Front Grille turned out to be a snack bar at the Corolla Light Resort. Salty shecrab soup, pretty ordinary pulled pork on a bun. Nice view. Not sure why they topped the raspberry daiquiri and pina colada with whipped cream. Wouldn't return for the food ;-)
The manager at our Inn mentioned the soups are good at Route 12, in TIm Buck II, near the gas station.
