I'm staying on st. charles for my anniversary and we're looking for a fancy, romantic fine dining place for our dinner. We want a true New Orleans place w/New Orleans food, we're spurging for the anniversary and this is a once in a lifetime kind of a thing, the one place in New Orleans we must dine at (even though I know it's hard to pick one in New Orleans). Any recs?

August. I find Galatoire's too exuberant to be romantic.

August is probably the most romantic and most "splurge" restaurant with new orleans food. Stella! is very romantic, but the food isn't so much classic new orleans. While Bayona is lovely, the food doesn't impress me much. I might also suggest Clancy's. It can be very romantic, the food is classic new orleans, it's upscale and has excellent service.

For a special occasion, and within a street car ride and short walk, I'd recommend:

        Galatoire's
The Grill Room at the Windsor Court
        Stella!
        Rib Room
        Bayona

        And, in about that order.

If you add a cab ride, then CP would be in the mix, though down a bit, as they have failed to impress me on the last half-dozen trips. They WERE our go-to for special occasions, and my wife celebrated about 20 birthdays there, even after we had long since moved away. Over the last 10 years, they have failed to impress us, hence the lower ranking in this list.

        Most of all, enjoy,

        Hunt

Commander's or Bayona. Bayona, to me, is the most beautiful and romantic restaurant in town.

Stella and Cuvee are a couple of other nice options for an anniversary.

Suzy........I love Delmonico's but it's rarely mentioned here. If you go soon give the general manager Saleem Nowaz my best wishes. He's a tall handsome young man from Syria who has worked for Emeril for quite some time. Tell him Henry McCaslin said hello from Mississippi Delta. Thanks.

Where are you staying on SC? Will you have a car? If not are you willing to catch a cab to FQ or Uptown restaurants. How long will you be in NOLA? Do you need more recommendations for lunch or dinner.

If all you need is one recommendation for your anniversary I would suggest Commander's Palace for dinner in their Garden Room. My second choice would be Emeri's. Good luck. Thanks.

we will have a car, but we're hoping to be able just use the streetcar, and we're willing to walk, too. so uptown, cbd, fq... we're focusing on one really fancy dinner, we will be getting another dinner and a couple lunches, but cheap.
