Today's Visit [Il Pavone, Asbury Park]
My husband and I visited this establishment this afternoon and all I can say is that we were very disappointed. The gelato did not taste fresh, it was not creamy and it was expensive. We don't mind paying for a smaller size if the quality is good. We had the small cup which is about the "kiddie" size that my 4 year old grandson would eat. The price was 8.99 for two cups. The portion wasn't even a real "scoop". There were no other customers. You'd think they'd try to keep those that do visit their store. We won't go back.

Im sorry to hear about that. I am a regular here and see the owner bringing out gelato from the back made fresh almost everytime I go. My husband and I look forward to going here everytime we go out to dinner in Asbury. I get a decent portion as do other people I see with their cup. I've been to Italy a few times and have had gelato from a few other cities, and I have to say Il Pavone is just like Italy. Their ingredients do come from Italy, which would be why the prices are the way they are. As for the no customers...I've waited in a line out the door for a cup of their gelato, and it was worth every minute!
The staff and owner are always so friendly and everyone I tell about this place goes back.
Give it another shot, try the biscotto mixed with pistachio!
And for those who haven't been, it's a must!›1 Reply -

I was surprised to hear this. I just got the recent issue of Monmouth Health and Life with the Best of's and this place was mentioned several times. has anyone else that has been there care to elaborate/

Everything's expensive in AP; blame the landlords who charge exorbitant rates to lease space; a proprietor sets costs to make his nut and hopefully bring a little home themselves..
That being said, there's no reason that they can't provide you with a nice scoop and then some for the price they're charging. Was summer help serving you?
