Up to date bread machine recs

  • 4

Hi all: I'm in the market for a bread machine but have only found very old recs. Anyone have recs based on recent info/purchases? Thank you!

  1. Thought I'd take one more shot at this as a few days have passed with no replies. I have food allergies so I'm looking to start making my own bread. I don't have time to bake myself so the machine will be helpful! Thank you for any info you can provide!

What are the "old" recommendations that you are aware of? I got a Zojirushi machine about 10 years ago and, after periods of on and off use, it's still terrific. Often I use it just for kneading and sometimes rising, and finish loaves on my baking stone in the oven (I don't own a stand mixer). But it also makes terrific regular breads. As I recall, the Panasonic National was the other high rated model. And Consumer Reports liked a "Breadman" machine, I think.

This is probably not a technology that has evolved much in recent years, so the reviews are not coming out of the woodworks.

I have a Breadman Ultimate and like it. I don't make much bread, but am a klutz at kneading, so this is a good fit.

If you bake the bread in the machine, it ends up with a hole in the bottom where the paddle sits. So, I take the dough out for the third rise, let it rise in a regular loaf pan, then bake it in the oven.

I started with the Breadman Ultimate but it died after about 8 months making bread about once a week. I got the Zojirushi to replace it and love it. This is the one that I have: http://www.amazon.com/Zojirushi-BBCCX...
