#20 Disher/Scoop?

I am looking to purchase a disher/spring-loaded ice-cream scoop. I will use it mostly to make muffins, although probably also occasionally cookies. I know that #20 is the appropriate size disher for muffins (according to Alton Brown, anyway), but when I look online it seems that every disher for sale that is marked as #20 is a different size -- some are 1.5 oz, others are 2.5. I also found one posting where someone said it was 3.2 oz. Does anyone out there know what the correct size -- in ounces -- for a #20 disher is? Thanks!

    This may help you out.

3-1/3 Tbsp., according to the chart in this link, which might be something to bookmark:

4 Tbsp is 2oz., which will fill a standard muffin cup to the correct depth, about 3/4 full, maybe a bit more. This is a leveled amount in a 16 disher. So I'd think a size 16 would be better than 20. If you use a 20, heap the scoop. I have 3 dishers from 2 different makers (an Oxo and 2 unmarked) and none of them has a size marked anywhere, much less a measured capacity! I recall that when I bought them, no such info was on the cardboard cards they attached to, either.

In the store, I had looked all over my scoop to see what number it was and could not find it. I even asked the sales assistant if they had the number in their computer system, but she said all they had was "medium". So, when I saw your link I was really happy to be able to test the size of my scoop with the chart provided. In pouring in the water, I suddenly noticed that at least my scoop (Adamo Import Limited - mechanical spring loaded) does show the number #20 on the sweeping tang inside the scoop that releases the ball of ice cream from the spoon. FYI.

Son of a gun - I found it there too, very tiny and hard to read. Thanks for mentioning this. What an odd spot to use! It makes no sense that it's so hard to find the measurements on these scoops, but it's also strange to number them by the number of scoops in a quart rather than the ounce capacity.
