Seeking Dinner suggestions for 2nite & tomorrow nite (Augusta area) ( ice cream too) Pls help!

New to area.... We are staying in Augusta and will be near Mt Vernon area tomorrow during the day. Looking for casual, fun , seafood restaurant for family with kids. Will travel up to 45 minutes in any direction. Could be in a quaint town (where we could stroll b4 dinner) or near water or a nice view... Any restaurant "must-do's" ???

Also : Any good ice cream places nearby??? Would love to take our camper off the grounds ( in Mt Vernon) for a fun snack break.

Thanks SO much.

So where'd you end up? Just curious.

From Augusta, you can be down to the Pemaquid Peninsuala (Round Pond, with two bona fide lobster shacks and ice cream at the Round Pond Store, and great strolling around the harbor) or in Rockland (Waterman's Beach lobster) within 45 minutes.

Slate's in Hallowell, we drive from the coast for it.

Ice Cream: I second Tubby's. They now have a second location in Winthrop, which may be more convenient to Augusta/Mt.Vernon. Depending on where you are...Deb's in Randolph and Webber's in Farmingdale both homemade flavors soft and hard.

Sonny's Seafood in Readfield may be closest thing to real "lobster shack" feeling this far inland. (But not a stroll b4 dinner kind of atmosphere).

Best town for strolling is Hallowell, just south of the Capitol on Rte 201 (State St, Augusta becomes Water Street, Hallowell). Charming, historic riverfront and shops/restos. For seafood, perhaps Hattie's Chowder House. For more "fine dining" atmosphere, Slates. For waterview dining (and outdoor patio dining) try Joyce's.

Boy, are you in luck! Some of the best lobster rolls in the state are served up at Tubby's Ice Cream in Wayne. Good footlong dogs for the kids, too. Be sure to get "tastes" of as many ice creams as you can before you decide on a flavor!

And, it's lakeside, there's a nice walk you can take out back.

As for the casual, fun seafood restaurant on the 2nd night, maybe Rebecca's Place on Route 17 just east of Augusta.
