Just returned from Corolla. Best meal: Red Sky Cafe in Duck. Also Sam and Omies was out of soft shell crab....said we just missed the season for their provider. Worst meal BY FAR was at Sunset Grille in Duck. Had to send appetizer back twice! They just couldn't get it hot.....not too hard. Finally took it off the bill. The food there was horrible! Service was not much better. Steamers in Corolla was great....we ate at picnic tables outside.
Sunset has a great water front view and serves fresh seafood and steaks for breakfast, lunch or dinner. They also have outdoor dining. The Blue Point is open for lunch or dinner with wonderful water front views. The Fin and Claw has outstanding seafood also. The Colington Cafe in Kill Devil Hills is open for fine dining at dinner and serves outstanding cuisine. Lighthouse Bagels is outstanding open for breakfast, lunch and dinner serving casual salads and sandwiches. Ocean Front Grill is excellent fine dining for dinner only located on the water front.

Duck is about 15 miles from Corolla - in Duck:
Elizabeth's Cafe (Scarborough Faire Shoppes)
pretentious but worth at least one visit - call well ahead of time to make a reservation. If you wait until you are down there, unlikely to get in.
Blue Point Bar and Grill - some wonderful seafood selections.
Duck Deli - decent BBQ. Good option for breakfast, lunch or takeout.
Tommy's Gourmet Market
limited amount of prepared foods available, good sandwiches.
Tuillos Pastry Shop in Loblolly Pines
pastries and cakes made on site.
Might be worth a drive to Nags Head to visit Sam and Omies for their softsell crab sandwich. They've been there forever it seems.
