Carmen Anthony's lobster roll? Waterbury or Woodbury, CT location

Has anyone tried it? Thinking about going tonight and sitting at the bar. Thanks!

Ok, we actually went last night to the Waterbury location and sat at a booth at the bar. We started out with a lemon drop martini and the mango madness martini. We shared the hot lobster roll, the fried calamari(RI style), and the side order of lobster mac & cheese. The hot lobster was good-very good, the bun was toasted nicely and it came with a generous portion of steak fries. The fried calamari was done to perfection and came RI style with hot peppers. The lobster mac and cheese was the 2nd best that I have had in the state. We didn't have any room for dessert.

We've been to Carmine's in Woodbury at least 6 or 7 times. Interestingly, every time we ate in the main dining room we had problems, especially with the service. The last 3 or 4 times we've gone, however, we've sat in the bar, and ordered from the bar menu. Much more comfortable (as you said, nice leather booths, quieter, cooler), and had very good service, none of the rudeness we've experienced inside. Glad you enjoyed the lobster roll. I know I've had it but don't really recall it except that perhaps that it was very buttery.

Where was the best lobster mac & cheese you had in the state?

Aspen Restaurant in Old Saybrook at the Saybrook Furniture Barn. It's a seasonal dish so call ahead and ask.

Carole Peck's, across the road from Carmine's in Woodbury. It's not only the best, but it's huge. We've had it there, and taken half home, and I've gotten it to go, one order for the two of us. They gave us plenty of their great country sourdough bread and a bunch of their spicy papadums, and we made a big salad at home so it was plenty for dinner for the two of us hounds:

Lots of Lobster & spinach an Adult baked macaroni
imported provolone cheese *white truffle oil sprinkle $29

I didn't care for Carol's lobster mac and cheese and after I had it I read somewhere else where they said that was the only thing not to get on the menu. I'm not into the truffle oil being added, it ruined the entire dish. I want to taste the lobster and cheese, not the truffle oil.

I really need to try Carol Peck's lobster mac and cheese...we just went to Harvest Supper a month or two ago and Good News is next on my list (along with The Suburban).

But, Carmen Anthony's actually does a lobster mac and cheese--it's just not on their menu, you have to ask specifically for it. It's really very good.

The Grey Goose, in Southport, CT. (not a far ride from you guys! Right near Fairfield, has a wonderful lobster mac. & cheese. You should all come down and check it out. You will love it.

Actually, on take out, they gave me a little container of the truffle oil on the side. Obviously it's something that's put on just before serving so you could ask that it be ommitted. Personally I prefer her use of the Italian cheeses to the usual chedddar m&c.

Ugh. I just came back from Good News where I was really eager to try the Lobster Mac and Cheese - I really was sooooo looking forward to it. Boy, was it a disaster! The penne pasta was so completely overcooked that it was practically disintegrating in the dish, and the sauce wasn't creamy and delicious, as I'd expected -- I think it had been so overheated (oven? microwave? heat lamp? IDK!) that the sauce got all separated and congeal-y, There was a big pool of oil/grease at the bottom corner of the dish and there was just no flavor to it at all. I tried adding some salt, but that didn't help. There were nice big chunks of lobster in it that were more or less cooked properly (a few rubbery ends here and there), but the whole dish just was ick. I was so disappointed. And when we mentioned it to the bus boy and then the owner, we were told there was a "substitute" chef in today and he'd be yelled at. It was not, apparently, the first bad LM&C to get sent out on his watch. :-( That's great, but I still didn't get my LM&C fix. I may have to try Carmen Anthony's or Capital Grille. <sigh> Or, worse, make my own! LOL!

In better news, the flash-fried beef starter was enjoyable and my SO really liked his lamb. He says he'd be game to go back and try again, but I dunno... how can I be sure I'll get the chef who makes the GOOD LM&C next time? I sure wasn't going to wait around for him to wreck another batch of it. :-(

Try Good news Cafe at lunch...smashed potato or salmon entree..the menu is more interesting and less expensive

Did they take the mac & cheese off the bill?
