INN OF THE SEVENTH RAY

Baron Jul 22, 2010 05:59 PM

I think a lot of us chow hounds have been to the Inn of the Seventh Ray and enjoyed the beautiful setting and the pretty lousy food and dreadful service. I just read a review that they have a new chef and staff and the place now deserves two stars. Can this be true? Has anyone been?

I haven't been recently but have to admit I've been thinking about it tonight as well. Last time I was there was for brunch and was delighted with the setting but too underwhelmed with the food to make it worth the trek. Here is SIV's review I think you are referring to:

The first time I went to the Ray was my last day of high school in 1976. I was taken there by a school friend who was the daughter of the owners. It was charming and the food was verygood. Being with the daughter of the owners the service was fine. Alas that didn't last. I hope with this new chef it will bring back the old days I remember.

I've been to lunch there 3 times in the past 6 months before its LA Times review came out. The food is actually pretty good. The St. Germaine soup is amazing!
