Indian restaurant in Mountain View
A sleuthing puzzle for those of you familiar with South Bay Indian restaurants...
Back when I lived on the peninsula, I had a favorite Indian restaurant I liked to frequent. It was right on El Camino, on the south side of the street, tucked into the southeast corner of a nondescript strip mall. I believe it was only a few blocks east of Castro Street, though I could be slightly mistaken. Most defining feature: strangely colored lights that gave the whole restaurant a kind of surreal greenish tint.
I'm coming back into town for a few days and would love to go back. Does anyone know the name of this place?
Thanks so much!

Only place in MV on the south side of Camino that comes to mind is the restaurant at Namaste Plaza. It recently changed names and I can't remember the new or old name right now. It's related to the supermarket next door. Don't remember any green lighting.

I would have to guess Amber India too, even though that's on the north side of the street. It's tucked back into a corner and quite good. The lighting is a little dim but I wouldn't call it 'colored'. If it is Amber, There's Sf version now.

There's Amber Cafe right there, although it's not on the south side and doesn't fit your description of being in nondescript strip mall.
A few miles up El Camino in Redwood City (although also probably not what you're talking about even though it is on the south side of the street) is Suraj, which I ate at the other day and found to be extraordinarily good. Especially the spicy chicken soup and the Chicken Masala (*not* the Chicken Tikka Masala). The heat level was high, flavors were very good, and overall i was really caught off guard, I expected it to be somewhat average.
