Wife and I have a night out at the Pantages. Looking for a really good meal in a romantic setting.
Used to live in Hollywood 8 years ago but know little of what is good there these days. Thanks in advance for your help!

No limit, really. I can go a few miles. Like to stay East of La Brea, north of Wilshire.

case closed! providence is one of the very best in LA. if you are willing to spend the money there, then no need looking elsewhere.

I just went to Providence on Monday and had the 5 course tasting menu. Very good, carefully thought out food. I liked that they did complex things with simple ingredients, yet still made it taste like good, solid food.

For an upscale place, Providence (Seafood) is highly regarded. Order spot prawns with olive oil and lemon or tasting menu and he does foie gras dishes well. I find some his fish dishes a little bland. Others high on my romantic Hollywood radar with great food are:

Hatfield's - American (Croque Madame and their red meat duo are musts)
Osteria Mozza - Italian (Stay away from entrees, stick with apps and pasta)

I would go Hatfied's, Providence, then Osteria Mozza IMO. With the first two neck and neck.

UPDATE: Went to Providence and had the Chef's tasting with wine pairing. Indescribably fulfilling. I would give it 5 but I don't think 5 exists. This is high as it gets.
