Upscale in Santa Fe

We've been to many of the upscale joints in Santa Fe (Geronimo, The Compound, Pasqual's, Coyote Cafe, more) and are looking to try someplace new. We've narrowed our list down to Fuego, Luminaria, Amavi and Ristra. Thoughts on any of them?

  1. I like, don't love, Amavi. The Mediterranean menu is solid, if somewhat overpriced. The wine program is solid, if incredibly overpriced. I do enjoy the weekly wine classes there, which are both edifying and, ironically, considering the markup on the standard wine list, a good bargain.

Haven't been to the others on your list, but will be interested in what other hounds have to say.

    1. Not familiar with your list, but I can highly recommend Restaurant Martin. If I'm not mistaken, the chef used to cook at The Compound.

You are mistaken. He used to cook at the Old house and for a brief time at Geronimos

      2. Liked the bar menu at Ristra although $50 doesn't go far with a good bottle; haven't been in the full dining room in a long time. Same about Amavi, like not love. Luminaria is pretty but hotel restaurants are never a favorite; same for Fuego. And I'd agree with giving Martin's a try. Didn't he win a James Beard at the Old House? Anyone eaten at Aqua Santa? How does he stay open in that location?
