Waterloo & City, Barbrix.....OR.....?

Going out on Saturday for my birthday and was thinking to try Waterloo and City. Anyone been lately and have some recs? I also have reservations at Barbrix but we have been there before. I wanted a casual bar/gastropub place with good food. If there are any other recs I am also open. We live in Encino but will travel.

Thanks!

I would vote Waterloo just for the dill pickle martinis alone...

We ended up going to Waterloo and very glad we did. The charcuterie plate was amazing! We got the "Prince" which is the second level and it was a lot for 2 people. It came with the meats, 2 pate's of your choice, foie gra mousse, beef drippings and accompaniments. We got the duck and rabbit pate's and both were excellent.
We also had the beef shins and gnocci vongole. The beef shins were super tender and delicious and came with a short rib croquet and potatoes, would definitely order again. The vongole was way to rich for me, the sauce was spicy and the flavor overpowered everything else on the dish.
Overall, very good service, nice atmosphere and great food. Would highly recommend.

Along those same lines, maybe Lazy Ox?

Thanks Molly. We have been to Lazy Ox twice and love it. We have new baby so when we get a chance to get out we want to try new things. Only been to Barbrix once and loved it, haven't yet been to Waterloo.

Oh, I would totally go with Waterloo, then. I haven't been yet (although it sounds like we have similar tastes since I love Barbrix and really liked Lazy Ox) but it's next on my list. That charcuterie platter is calling my name!

I wrote up our fairly recent visit to Waterloo & City: http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/7179...

Thanks Servog, I did read your review. Yours seems to be the only recent once since it opened, so I didn't know if there were others that had visited lately. We are especially interested in the pate/charcuterie plates.

I thought New Trial (who replied in the thread I started) had some good insight into the food as well. I hope you will try at least one of the charcuterie platters at W&C (especially the King Platter) and come back with a full report. That will undoubtedly be my next order when we go again, and I would love to have your report to read first.

Thanks, we will definitely try the charcuterie, although with 2 people, I am not sure we can handle the kings platter. Looks like the fries and quail are worth a try too.
