Trip to aquarium with 4 kids. Lunch recs?
Hi! We will be traveling next week to Baltimore with our 4 kids to visit the National Aquarium. We are only doing a day trip, and we need some recommendations for lunch, please! Our kids are 7,6,3, and 1. They are well behaved, but we do not want anything formal or fancy (obviously). A nice, good, not too crowded casual place would be perfect. We will be going on a weekday. Thanks so much!

Thanks for all your help! We hit Miss Shirley's for lunch and it was fantastic. Then we headed out to Bill's Terrace Inn for crabs and were sad to see it was closed on Mondays. Our mistake. We had our crabs at Al's down the road. A great time was had!

Attman's, suggsted below, is great but a 10-15 min walk with kids. Miss Shirley's is expensive for essentially brunch food that might be wasted on young children. How about Cafe Boheme, which is on Pratt Street directly across from the Aquarium? Good soups and sandwiches, very casual.

I agree with the Miss Shirley's recommendation. The food is very good (all day breakfast/brunch food plus lunch items). Tends to be a little crowded but it's a big place so i've never had to wait long. Kids will love it and there are plenty of choices (for grown ups also).

The absolute best restaurant for lunch in that area is Attman's Deli. Luscious corned beef and pastrami, bologna wrapped hot dogs, giant pickles, all in a great old time deli that's been there for decades. It's easy walking distance from the aquarium, and is to my mind one of the best restaurants in Baltimore. If you go at high noon it can be crowded, but it's definitely casual.

Ale Mary is in Fells Point, likely too far to walk with kids that young.
Never heard of Ibbie's. Maybe they said Iggie's? That's in Mt Vernon, and too far walk with young children as well. Although maybe the new purple line on the Charm City Circulator goes near there (I haven't checked out its route yet).

Maybe eat at the food courts in one of the plazas? There is a lot of variety and it's not a bunch of chains you can get anywhere.
http://www.harborplace.com/dining-ent... (there are two pavilions and the gallery).
I'll think about the restaurants nearby and get back to you though. Some of the things in the pavilions are sit down establishments.

re: melpy
We were there in June. The food court has been hit very heavily by the economy and has a LOT of empty spots. To make things more confusing, a few of the remaining chains took over some of the empty spots, so there is not all that much choice.
There is a pan-Asian place right next to the Aquarium's marine mammal wing which may work for you. It's an order at the counter, food is brought to your table sort of place. I remember the food being fine but not outstanding. The delis that others have described sound better, but this is very close.

While it may be a bit crowded, Miss Shirley's is your best option. Other than that, honestly, I'd go to one of the chains (Panera or Chipotle are both nearby). I don't know how much of a walk you are comfortable with (given the 4 kids!), but Little Italy is nearby. Amicci's serves lunch and is dependable. I doubt it will knock your socks off, but it's good and kid-friendly.
