Noodleholic....meh...OK I guess....
Well, after hearing somes raves about Noodleholic on Dundas West/Roncesvalles, decided to check it out.
I have been to this location a few times, first when it was "B" (which I loved), also when it was "Nosh" which I found mediocre, and now as "Noodleholic".
I will talk about the look of the place first. Pretty plain, it seems as though there was no thought put into it. My impression was that whoever got the spot from Nosh, got the chattels as well. Very non-descript and blah. But we weren't there for the decor
The food was good, but nothing to really get overly hyped about. The menu basically has a list of different steamed rice dishes, rice noodle dishes, and egg noodles dishes, and you specify which kind you want (i.e. chicken, beef, shrimp, or veg). Essentially, you jot it down on the pad they provide, so that part is very efficient. The GF and I ordered chicken dumplings to share (disappointed they didn't have pork) she had the Kung Pao rice dish with Chicken, and I had the Spicy Tangy Thai rice noodle with beef. When the dumplings arrived, I first thought that they were deep fried, but after discussion with the GF, we came to the consensus that they weren't, just maybe a bit too much oil in the pan, at too high a temperature. They were tasty, but nothing earth shattering. When the mains arrived they pretty much looked identical to each other. I was disappointed that the beef was not spicy at all (considering it said it was "Spicy Tangy Thai"). We tried each others entrées and the thought was that they tasted the same, regardless of the different meat and starch. What it really reminded me of was a Teriyaki Experience that was kicked up a few notches. So it was pretty much worth the price ($25 with tip). I would go here again, only if I was in the area and I wasn't sure what I wanted. If I was to describe it, I would call is a reliable place, but it is definitely not a destination locale.
The only issue I really had was with the service. The 2 servers that were there were friendly enough. However, my GF and myself went for an early supper, so we were the only ones seated at the time. While we ate, the servers stood in the doorway to the kitchen and basically stared at us the whole time while we ate. It was very disconcerting. If I were to go there again, I think that I may opt for takeout, as the staring just gave us a creepy vibe.
