2010 Zagat choice empty on a Saturday night?

We recently traveled to Shepherd's Bush while in London to dine at the Princess Victoria. It had a very nice mention in the 2010 Zagat guide as well as many favorable reviews online.

We found the place, at 22:30 on a Saturday night, to be totally empty!

Does anyone have any idea what is going on with this establishment?

  1. I'll let others answer as to why it was empty but... Did you end up eating there? If so, how was it?

When we peaked in the window and saw one lone person at the bar and the restaurant empty, we made an abrupt change in plans! Headed back towards Waterloo and had great fish and chips at Master's Super Fish.

    2. I find the Zagat Guide to be much more reliable for NYC than London. I'm not sure why that is but won't speculate here. Another place to check out restaurants in London is I really can't vouch for its authenticity, but it's another barometer. Reviews seem mixed for the Princess Victoria, and it doesn't get a very high rating.

      1. I would guess that, as Shepherd's Bush is mainly residential, and not a "let's go to" area like The Beach or Covent Garden, then the patronage will be amost totally local residents. From 30 years of living in central London I know that Fridays and Saturdays are often regarded as nights off by locals, and many places in residential locations will be busier midweek.

        1. I think limster had a good dinner at the Princess Victoria recently, and it's rated by a friend of mine who lives in the neighbourhood.

I have no idea why it was empty - but 22.30 is late for eating in England, and it's also the height of the holiday season, with many locals away.
