Sounds like you have plenty of options already, but thought I'd mention that I saw a big platter of great-looking fresh figs at Andreoli, if you're in the area.

We split off some fig recipes to our Home Cooking board. You can find that thread here: http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/724293

Picked up some at Sprouts today. Have been told that the Tempe Costco had them earlier this week, Chandler didn't yesterday, but it might have been between deliveries. I know they go fast when they do have them.

Also, the Urban Grocery was advertising that they had some in as well.

Happy Fig Season, fellow fig lovers!

Whole foods had two kinds, turkey and brown, both looked great. I made prosciutto wrapped figs (Turkey) stuffed with blue cheese on the grill two nights ago - awesome! Makes the best accompaniment to a nice mache salad.

I found them at the Mesa Farmers' Market, Center; and Main in downtown Mesa, Friday 9-12. Maybe another market if this location is not close to you.

Not in supermarkets. So far this week seen in two Italian greengrocer/specialty food stores, one Middle Eastern market, and at the Korean market. Green and black fresh figs were available, although often only one type at amarket andthe black ones were riper.

                Long Island. Where are you?

I saw some this past Sunday at Whole Foods (Chandler) for $6/basket. I didn't want to pay that much for such a small amount so passed (Particularly since i paid $3/basket at Whole Foods in Seattle ten days ago for the same California figs!).

I found some later that same afternoon at Trader Joe's. $2.99 for twice as much. I bought two packages one for me and one for my mom. They weren't that good. I should have spent the money on the Whole Foods one as they smelled good and were nice and soft (the ones we did buy at WF in Seattle were very good).

Costco usually has them in season so I've been check there but not yet. When they do get them they're priced well and always good quality.

I'm still hoping to find someone with a fig tree that doesn't like figs! LOL

Saw some in Pathmark today, brown-black, not quite ripe, by the piece, no baskets. Yesterday got 2 pint baskets of almost overripe black figs for 99 cents each at the middle eastern specialty market, so I didn't think the supermarket ones were worth it.
