Three dinners in Palm Springs area?

We'll be spending three nights in Palm Springs and was wondering where to go for really nice dinners. We don't mind driving a bit, but would prefer nearby...perhaps Rancho Mirage, or even Palm Desert for something wonderful. Prefer American, Continental, seafood or perhaps Italian. Not Asian food...we get that at home all the time. Price not important, but great food, cocktails, and nice ambiance and service are. Any ideas?

  1. My GF just a very good experience at Trio in PS. Scallops pan seared with Meyer lemon was excellent. The seafood stew also had high marks.... Also consider Zin American Bistro, very popular. For a classic old school supper club experience with outstanding cocktails, head to Davey's Hideaway in PS.

Trio is a must. Best, coolest, most welcoming, fun place in town. It's fabulous for all tastes and all ages. Best breakfast is Cheeky's across the street - only open till 3PM, so go for breakfast or lunch. Best fine dining is Johannes which just started serving lunch. Casually elegant and absolutely wonderful every time. Best atmosphere is La Valouris (check spelling) with a gorgeous garden and very elegant fare. May be too hot if you're going soon, but it's lovely. Inside is okay, but the garden is gorgeous. Spencer's is fun for a type of rat pack ambiance and the food is fine. Another lovely place is the Purple Palm located in the pool area of the Colony Palms Hotel. Have fun! All are excellent.

    2. Chop House is one of the Top 10 steakhouses in the US (I have read) - fabulous!
Sammy G's is another that is more continental/Italian in flavor.
Copley's is another one - was originally Cary Grant's desert home.
From the other response, Cheeky's is just breakfast and lunch starts at 11:30 - they are closed Tuesday - close each day at 2 pm - very unique and tasty items...
The Falls Steakhouse is another good choice, as well as Matchbox.
Down below Matchbox is my favorite: Maracas (formerly Mariposa).

All of these mentioned are on Palm Canyon in either uptown or downtown Palm Springs and are my favorites (I live in Palm Springs, so I frequent all).
