Hell's Kitchen tonight! Two episodes, which two are going home! and Spoilers!

Okay, I don't have any spoilers yet. But I loved the NFNS thread where people put in who they thought would go home BEFORE the show was on. Tonight we have two episodes. So pick two.... obviously after tonight tons of spoilers for the Tivo'ing crowd.

People left:
Ed
Ben
Jay
Holli
Autumn
Jason

My final two? Jay and Holli
Who can go home tonight? Autumn
Torn with Ben and Jason. Trying to make up my mind there... afraid the editing monkeys are playing with me on how good or bad they are.

If anyone is at all curious, I asked Jay Santos (Bluejay) what pantry items they were allowed to use in the $10 challenge if he could tell me. Apparently he could and those items were in his words: butter, herbs, oil S&P included, nothing else

Just thought I'd share ... I love the challenges.

What happens NEXT week with their flirting that causes Chef Ramsay to do something HE'S NEVER DONE BEFORE IN THE HISTORY OF HELL'S KITCHEN??? :-) Does he have to separate the two lovebirds?

I am not sure how I will survive the hundred plus hours I must wait until Chef Ramsay reveals that which HE'S NEVER DONE BEFORE IN THE HISTORY OF HELL'S KITCHEN!

You will probably end up WRITING IN CAPITAL LETTERS for the next SEVERAL HUNDRED HOURS in your biggest ANTICIPATION YET of something that Chef Ramsay has NEVER YET DONE IN THE HISTORY OF HELL'S KITCHEN!

I wouldn't be surprised if Ramsay's "NEVER DONE BEFORE" is unrelated to the Holli and Jay's TV romance. Holli talking about love is probably about her baby.

The way teasers are edited on the show, I wouldn't be surprised if the producers just worked two unrelated drops to make it sound like more.

I'm a straight chick and don't quite see what y'all are drooling over with Holli. At all. Maybe it was the fact that she mentioned she had a huge porn collection?

as another straight chick, I think she has stayed out of most of the really nasty bashing of other people, and seems genuinely pretty nice. Could just be editing monkeys. I think she is attractive, (not enough to turn me lesbian) but still a very pretty young woman.

Ben is so grating on my nerves and no he is not a capable leader. And he doesnt seem to be a great chef either, landing (to my delight) near the bottom in the value challenge. That rocked! Jason deserved to go (WHO BUYS PRE MADE RAVIOLI IN A COOKING COMPETITION?!) and Ed, too. Holli and Autumn coming from behind was kind of exciting to watch, but in general, this year's bunch is an insipid, uninspiring one.

Didn't you think it was weird that Ben still kept quiet even tho everyone is yelling at him to talk? All he had to do was yell some 'yes chefs' and they'd probably shut up about it. Same thing with Jay, just yell it out mindlessly if that's something they'll dock you for.

Yes! It was making me mad. I was screaming at the TV, 'say something to shut him up'! They are like deer in headlights. And then when Ben goes and tries to take initiative when Gordon steps out and usurps the sous chef's role....moron! (good TV tho!)

LOL! I couldn't believe he thought he could do that, Jane!

I would like to ask Jay (if I ever get back to Gargoyles) to ask him if you really blank out that much during service so that you just don't hear what anyone is saying to you, much less GR. :-)

Hasn't it been said in the past that this type of set-up - where things are put together at the pass by someone not actually cooking the food - isn't a usual restaurant kitchen set-up? So wouldn't that add to the general confusion?

                      kprange Jul 21, 2010 06:54 PM

When I worked in a kitchen, we had someone who worked the hot side, someone who worked the cold side, and someone who worked the flattop/garnish/lead station. Whoever cooked steaks, for example, didn't finish the plate, or garnish. While GR's kitchen is so much bigger, the system isn't all that different.

I meant to say garnish/fry area. The cold side also ran the flat top - hot I know, but that was the way it was in our kitchen

                        LindaWhit Jul 21, 2010 07:04 PM

Thanks for the clarification. However, did *one* of those people finish the plate, or did someone who didn't have a hand in the cooking at all put all of the components together?

I'm thinking of one of chefs whose kitchen I've seen - I *think* there's 3 on the cooking end of things in his kitchen (I could be wrong, but I think it's 3 or 4). But in a smaller kitchen, wouldn't the EC be cooking and doing most of the plating?

As you can tell, I have absolutely *no* knowledge of how a restaurant kitchen works - large or small. :-)

                          kprange Jul 21, 2010 07:49 PM

The person on garnish/fry area finished the plates and called out the orders. There usually isn't enough extra money to have someone just getting the food ready. If it was really busy the EC or the SC would step in and run the show till we were out of the weeds. They usually didn't cook, just ran the board.

Here's a post elimination interview with Ed and Jason where they both discuss Autumn.

                        Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Autumn has been nominated for elimination several times. Is she really that bad or is there some sort of strategy going on in trying to get her out?
                        A. Ed: Autumn sucks.
                        A. Jason: She's definitely the weakest, no question. You don't have to take this from us. You might think were arrogant. I promise you, though. I'm just saying! Does Autumn deserve to be in the final four? Absolutely not. Nobody thinks that she deserves to be there, besides her boyfriend and her parents. Autumn is more the ditzy, cute, "Oh, hello, I woke up in the world today. Oh, is that the sun?" kind of girl. Come on! Stop it! Stop playing! There's no way she should be there!

Ow, comments like that from "frozen ravioli" Jason and NakED. They both thought they were wonderful but no one other did either. Does anyone there deserve to be in the final four, other than by default, when you come right down to it?

I avoided this thread because I didn't want to see who went home. :-) But I would have thought Autumn as well, along with Jason. Was surprised to see Ed tank.

And Firegoat, you think Jason (not BlueJay) is better than Ben? I don't think so. I also think it'll be Jay and Holli in the end - but OH MY! What happens NEXT week with their flirting that causes Chef Ramsay to do something HE'S NEVER DONE BEFORE IN THE HISTORY OF HELL'S KITCHEN??? :-) Does he have to separate the two lovebirds?

And last night, I couldn't help but hear "Oui Chef!" from Ben. Blech.

But thankfully he has a better haircut now. Cannot BELIEVE Ben's wife liked it better long. Girlfriend - that was a REALLY bad cut for him! LOL

He looks a THOUSAND times better with the hair cut. Jason had it spot on... Shaggy from Scooby Doo. Holli's myspace paged allegedly had her as a lesbian. Another site had her as bi. So I was surprised by her having a kid as well as the Jay flirtation. Her food and work seem pretty solid tho,

I actually watched most of this since I was curious how Jay was doing and knew it was getting down to the last batch. I found it odd/stupid that the 2nd guy in charge started screaming at Ben as if he had to keep up with being a douche like Gordon. And I've probably missed things since I'm not watching, but Autumn doesn't seem as bad as everyone makes her out to be.

I haven't seen the show in a couple of years until tonight. Ramsay seemed pretty tame but that's likely because the competition is close to the end and the ones left are pretty competent. I did notice that Ben, in talking to the bearded European chef judging the entrees, mispronounced "provençal", with a hard "c". I think he was credited as a cooking instructor and should have known the correct pronunciation, as should anyone who's gotten that far in a professional competition. However, the judge criticized him for not cooking his ratatouille-inspired vegetables together, commenting that they should be done that way according to tradition. He'd get an argument on that one, there being a large faction that says ratatouille components are cooked separately and then assembled. If Ben knew that and said so, it didn't make it to the screen.

As typical in "reality" TV contests, plenty of back-stabbing hypocrisy. No matter how you slice it, not an appetizing show!

We had a good laugh at the provencal pronunciation, mostly because Ben is so pretentious. He has a terrible service and thinks he did well?

Ben's mispronunciation of 'Provençal' was especially funny considering how much he mocked Siobhan about her pronunciation of 'challah'. Oh, that and his constant 'oui, chef.'

The previews for next week seemed full of misdirection. I'm pretty sure Holli's 'I love him' was about her son not about the Smurf.
