    Nobu Next Door
    Megu
Went to both this week for RW, food was excellent. Service a little better at Nobu ND.

I went to both last year during RW (not my idea) and found them to be pretty mediocre. If I had to pick between them, I'd go w/ Megu. D-bag vibe and cheesy decor but their lamb chops were pretty good. I wouldn't order any sushi though.

The pickings are pretty slim for Japanese restaurants participating in RW, but Matsugen is the best of the bunch, IMO.

I thought Matsugen always offers a reasonably priced prix fixe menu, that's why I didn't give it a rec. I thought Megu was an amazing value. The henessey flamed Kobe filet mignon was truly excellent, and it normally goes for $128! I love to get a RW opportunity like that.

You have a point - I can see how Megu could be a good choice for RW. Like I said, my lamb chops were pretty good. I was traumatized by their eel nigiri though (perhaps one of the worst pieces of eel I've ever put in my mouth) and I simply hated the vibe of the place, so I'm probably not being fair.

i second the lamb chops at Megu, nothing else except the bar and the decor is worth mentioning there..... Nobu i had a bad restaurant week experience , where they wouldnt allow only one of us to get the restaurant week meal , we both had to order the same omakase.

Yeah, I've given Nobu more chances than I should have (dragged to the one in Malibu, went to Matsuhisa in BH, then lastly the Tribeca one for RW last year) and have tried pretty much all his greatest hits yet I'm simply not impressed. Maybe it was good 10-15 years ago.

These are just based on past experiences, as I haven't done restaurant week in quite a while.

Nobu for lunch. The sushi is above average, and you can even get two of their signature dishes (rock shrimp tempura and miso black cod) for one RW lunch.

Megu for dinner. One of the better deals for quality of food, but the overall amount of food might be lacking. I suggest getting a restaurant week dinner and adding the croquettes on the side.

Japonais for dinner. Good food, decent portions. Get the steak and the cheesecake if they offer either.
