Help in Augusta
There's very little up here on restaurants in Augusta. I've read that it's a wasteland, and most of the places people have suggested seem to be closed. Where do foodies go for a good meal here? Please help!!!

I was last there a few years ago. I had a very nice, abet old school dinner at French Market Grille. I ordered a combo since I was curious about their crab chop, pretty rich. My steak was very good, wonderful Bearnaise sauce IIRC. Bread pudding was yummy. Plus that as a solo diner the service was excellent.
This is not downtown, in a shopping center with Talbots. My hotel was close, so that had some bearing on my choice. I would go there again on a future visit. Not cutting edge, but pretty solid!

I was just at French Market Grille for lunch this week and ordered the crepes. They are filled with shrimp, crab, crawfish and topped with a cream sauce. I was sorry I didn't opt for one of their salads on the separate Specials menu as those are usual the best bets. The crepes needed more seasoning, but the rice accompanying them was very good (and I am not a lover of rice). I am now curious about the steak. Love some good Bearnaise! I always go for lunch and perhaps the steak is just on the dinner menu?

I visit Augusta frequently and have a few places that I'll mention:
Bistro 491 is now open for lunch and dinner. While it is pricey, it does offer the most consistently good food and nice wine list. Often there are wines off-menu so just ask for suggestions. A couple of the servers can be snippy, but they do know the food and wine inside out and backwards. The atmosphere is white table cloth with fresh flowers and candles. There is a small-ish bar that caters to the regulars with a TV always tuned to a sports channel. It isn't unusual to have business and medical groups in one of their private rooms in back for dinner and, as is usual for most Augusta restaurants, the menu is "revised" for The Masters. Beef and pork dishes are quite good, but fish and shellfish can be iffy. Their Soup of Yesterday is usual very tasty and meals are served with a selection of various hot rolls. Desserts are made in-house and worth the calories.
Cadwallader's Cafe is another fine dining establishment that is a bit hard to find, but worth the visit. Service is friendly and diners will be welcomed warmly by Colden, the owner. His wife, Mary, is the pastry chef here and does a nice job with the desserts. But I am getting ahead of myself. There is a main dining room with a selection of white-clothed tables and booths, divided with a half-wall petition down the center for privacy. In addition, there are very private booths to the right closer to the kitchen. These are great for a person dining alone who may want to bring work or reading, or a couple seeking a romantic hideaway. The menu is varied with beef, pork, and fish selections, but often there will be creative dishes featuring hunting fare such as pheasant and quail. If so, order them. I like to order the crab cake appetizer which is served with a small salad of microgreens. The wine list is pleasant for those who know enough to make their own selections. There is a tiny bar with a TV but it seems to be more of a spot for organization of the staff. Cad's has the feel of a neighborhood cafe where the owner knows his regulars by name and will often be overlooked by mainstream Augusta diners and media. But that is fine by me!
