Places to eat worth stopping on a Hwy 5 trip from Oakland to Anaheim

Hi LA chowhounds, an SF Bay Area chowhound here who's not too excited at the prospect of eating In'n'Out for lunch *and* dinner on this drive south. Can anyone recommend anywhere simple and tasty to eat on the second leg of this trip? 580 to 5, all the way... Have young kids, need nothing upscale.

Stop at King Taco on Olympic and Downey off the 5 freeway. That is a road trip stop. There is a giant sign that little kids can get excited over seen from the freeway. There are great taco, burritos, tostadas, and Los Angeles flavor--simple and tasty . . .

Anderson Pea Soup in Santa Nella.
Santa Nella exit is also the cheapest gas till you get to the LA basin.
Harris Ranch Inn restaurant in Coalinga is more upscale and pretty good, but meals there can be somewhat heavy when traveling.
      Sorry , but it's a fast-food wasteland.

bgbc did post a separate query on the California board, so please chime in with your non-L.A. area recommendations on that thread: http://chowhound.chow.com:80/topics/7...

I'd say pack your favourites from the market to eat on the road. We just did a road trip btwn SJC & SNA and the only stops we made were @ offramps w/In-n-Out for Mr OCAnn.
