Hubby and I would like to take a drive in the country, have a nice lunch and do some wandering/discovering. We've been thinking about NOTL area and then a friend suggested we check out Lake on the Mountain which we're not familiar with. Now not sure which way to go. Just wondering if anyone's been recently to this Picton spot and if the food is good? I do lve Picton area and plan to visit soon but this trip is mainly for a nice lunch. Thanks!

In Picton the main place to go for lunch is Miss Lily's. I've mentioned a few times on this site that I think East and Main in Wellington is great - it's about 15 minutes west of Picton and that would be my recommendation for a nice lunch. Harvest in Picton is also very good. Lake on the Mountain is lovely. Nice views of the water. There are a few nice places to stop there as well-- the Black River Cheese Co and Vicki's Veggies which is a farm with a small roadside stand not too far from there.

Thanks Arcadiaseeker. I will put Black River and Vicki Veggies on the list. I love stopping at little gems like these. It's what makes the trip special. That, and a good lunch of course.

Vicky's Veggetables was at the Barn (Christie and St Clair) during the winter so you may have run into her and she has a great supply of organic veggies at her place. Just up the road in Black River is her Mother's Pat Jams which has a great variety of preserves. Also not far is the Cidery in Waupoos which has one of the best views in the county and cider too!
