Rioja anyone?

I have a 1985 Marques de Riscal Rioja Reserva and have seen limited but very different reviews on this wine. Would like some input on the experience of others and what food I might serve this with before I open it up. Thanks.

        All good. I think you'll find the expertise you seek on that board. I'd also suggest being specific in your title, along the lines of "1985 Marques de Riscal Rioja Reserva - what to pair with it?" to really get people interested. Hounds love a challenge.

            Might be a bit late but...I went to a Spanish tasting last night and they recommended pork as a good match to rioja. whatever you have with it enjoy!

              Make sure you have another bottle as a backup.

                I've had later vintages of the Marques de Riscal and found that it went wonderfully with a simple Porterhouse, marinated in fresh garlic and salted. Let us know how it was!

                  I eventually went with grilled lamb. The Rioja was ok - I wasn't all that impressed, but then I didn't know the qualities of a Rioja to begin with but, still, it wasn't particularly flavorful. I will likely try another vintage again and probably a different label to get a bit of perspective - next time with beef. Thanks.

                    Your 1985 reserva, even from a fine producer like Riscal, was likely over the hill...Gran reservas can last that long (I have had quite a few).
