What's the hype about?
Ok - so I finally tried this place after getting hounded by friends. A great place to have a drink, but the service is slow! We had to keep asking for water, we waited for our server to clear our table over and over (we gave up and put the dirty dishes on a clean table and the owner removed them) - we called the owner or manager to take our order after trying to flag down our waiter. The food was delicious --- the polenta frites and the tomato salad was awesome! Dessert was boring and when I finally got the Tiramisu, it tasted like cool whip and it didn't taste fresh.
All in all, I'd go again for appetizers and a drink but would tell my waiter up front that he better be around!
Ciao Wine Bar

Went last weekend. Got there early so not too busy. Service was excellent but then again not busy at time when we arrived. Service negative was twice I had to poor wine for the table (not the end of the world) and when removing our appetizer plates they requested we keep our dirty eating utensils for the main course!?! Food was very good. Very large servings at decent prices but would not be surprised if prices go up in future and this is not a tactic to get people in a trendy and competitive area to try them. Atmosphere was good although a bit too warm inside as owners prefers to keep doors open to outside allowing humid air inside. I will go back again.
I was there for a business lunch a few weeks ago and was most unimpressed.
Our server made mistakes with orders of 3/8 starters and 2/8 mains.
And these were orders without any substitutions.
My starter took another 15 minutes after everyone else had been served... and it was a rather simple salad.
Same kind of timeframe on the mains...
And they were actually almost empty at this point.
The food was uninspiring with no discernible flavours whatsoever.
Salad greens were wilted.
Oh... and the hostess... pretty (vacant)
I will never return
i don't htink there has been a lot of hype about ciao at all. very mixed reviews here and other places...perhaps your friends really enjoyed it their experiences. the only positive is that it is reasonably priced for yorkville. also...summerlicious isn't the time to experience a restaurant-as with your case-service can sometimes be slow and somewhat inattentive as they are trying to get through the numbers of people that attend.
