THE COUNTER IS COMING TO MIRACLE MILE!!!
There's a COMING SOON sign announcing it on the Curson side of the old Koo Koo Roo!
I'm generally not big on "upgrades" in my life (e.g. I always get the free cell phone with a $15/month plan), but... WOW... from Koo Koo Roo to The Counter... what an upgrade!!
The FancyTrucks™ have really done their job in chasing out the culinary mediocrity that has plagued MM for years. Let's hope for even more movement! http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/6772...
I'm delighted!

Okay, this thread is making me woozy with joy. I was driving on Wilshire last week and saw the sign for the new Counter to be opened in Miracle Mile, and almost drove off the road. I live in Park La Brea, and can get to the new Counter on foot in eight minutes if I'm walking slowly. And I won't walk slowly. I will run there, in order to pre-burn the massive calories I will consume with their tremendous burgers and frieds.
And then I read that Nancy Silverton is openinng a burger joint in the Farmers' Market, also an eight minute walk from my apartment?! My God! I will never move.

Custom made burgers. You pick the size. You pick the bun. You pick the toppings. Good sweet potato fries and shakes. The original in Santa Monica is pretty good.

re: foufou
Agreed! I have been to the one in, what was it, Culver City and have to say that the Pasadena one is really good. I have been twice since they opened and both times it has been great. I love the sweet potato fries, well done. I always get the beef, medium rare but always say that I am going to try the veggie burger which one of our waitresses once said was really good. Next time I have decided I will definitely be trying it.

re: sidwich
The original got some buzz, but what was it other than your choice in amount of meat and your choice of condiments that most of the buzz was about. I wouldn't get my hopes up much in anticipation of this, The Counter has become a franchise operation with stores in nine states and two foreign countries.

re: Deidre7
I have to say that I've only eaten at the Santa Monica Counter, on two occasions, and found their food very high quality. It's a burger. What in the world did you find "gross" about it? I will say that they salt the fries to a ridiculous level, and I love salt. Other than that, I thought it was great.

For food trucks, unfortunately its a dying spot now that a certain councilman is trying to ban food trucks from parking on metered parking spots. So good for the people working there, they now have some better options but once the food trucks are forced to leave I wouldn't be surprised to see crappy fast food pop back up.

It seems as though the burger craze is now full circle and the frozen yogurt is steadily declining.
Interesting to see this along with Susan Feniger's new burger place in Farmer's Market open.

I think so

I wonder if the LA Times article which showcased the "Silverton blend" at Huntington Meats was the original impetus for this new burger venture?

re: Mr Taster
In the zagat.com blog story mentioned here last December ( http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/669831 ), Nancy Silverton's business partner predicted an opening this summer. Let's hope it doesn't slip past the end of the year. BTW, I made burgers this week using Nancy's ground-beef blend from Huntington Meats, and it was very good -- lots of juice and taste (at least, when cooked to medium rare in a screamingly hot cast-iron skillet).

Nope... this is probably the reason

And the reason for more Mozzas as well, before this Nancy was loathe to the idea of franchises...
