Maialino Restaurant Week Lunch
Tried the RW lunch menu here today and had a good experience overall. They also graciously gave each guest a $20 gift certificate good for weekday breakfast before Labor Day.
Loved my Tripe, Pecorino & Mint -- though I wish the tripe was just ever so slightly more tender. But it didn't feel overly heavy and rich. My friend loved her parma with mozzarella, which I didn't try.
The ricotta ravioli with brown butter, lemon & sage was excellent and not as rich as it read on paper thanks to the lemon. You could still taste the delicateness of the ricotta inside. And tonnarelli cacio e pepe was fantastic. Perfectly chewy and creamy and peppery. We loved both of these dishes.
The only misfire was the ticotta cheesecake & sour cherry jam. Lovely cheesecake with a nice texture and a thin layer of sour cherry on the bottom but the top was leathery due to the browning in the oven, we thought. We ended up taking the top off just to enjoy the cheesecake filling underneath. Eh. The olive oil cake was also good but a bit dense. Nicely sweet, bits of citrus zest, good flavor, but the texture could be better. But it was still good.
Service was excellent. I believe they were accepting walk-ins in the trattoria (bar + tables) as well.

Ooh! Thanks for the review. I think I'm gonna try to walk-in on a weekday next week. Ricotta ravioli with brown butter sounds divine!

The ricotta ravioli and Malfatti al Maialino were the favorite pasta dishes when my friends and I went there. We also loved the smoked swordfish (app) and the panna cotta (so smooth and creamy)

Agreed the ravioli and smoked swordfish were by far the best. Loved the swordfish flavor combinations and the atmosphere was perfect for a long lunch.
