Lunch near Interncontinental on St. Charles

Hi all.

I'll be in your fair city August 13-15 for a convention. I need some serious local eats to absorb as much local flavor as possible in my short trip. Any good recs for lunch near the Intercontinental?A good beer list is a bonus.

  1. Will you have a car. If not you can dine in the FQ and CBD and walk easily from your hotel. Luke is in the HIlton across from your hotel. Go for the happy hour and get good prices on drinks and appetizers.

Mila and Pearl's Oyster Bar are both close by. Bon Ton has outstanding creole food but they are closed on Saturday/Sunday. Domenica is another John Besh restaurant in The
Roosevelt a few blocks from your hotel with some custom beers and an Italian flavor to their menu.

Across Canal in the FQ the choice's are unlimited. Galatoires, Mr. B's, Acme Oyster Bar, Bayona, Stella, Irene's, Felix's, Brennan's, NOLA, Antoine's, Arnaud's, Johnny's Po Boys, Napoleon House, Stanley, Coops, et al.

    Luke Restaurant @ 333 St. Charles Ave., New Orleans, LA. 504 - 378 - 2840.
    Mila @ 817 Common St., New Orleans, LA. 504 - 595 - 6774.
    Bon Ton Cafe @ 401 Magazine St., New Orleans, LA. 504 - 524 - 3386.
    Domenica @ 123 Baronne St., New Orleans, LA. 504 - 648 - 6020.

Palace Cafe is on Canal a few blocks away from your hotel and serves outstanding creole cuisine. Le Foret is in CBD a block from your hotel and serves traditional NOLA French cuisine for dinner.

    Palace Cafe @ 605 Canal St., New Orleans, LA. 504 - 523 - 1661.
    Le Foret @ 129 Camp St., New Orleans, LA 504 - 553 - 6738.

Awesome. Thanks for the recs. No car, so I'll be on foot / street car. Palace Cafe looks amazing. That might be the winner.

      Any good Po' Boys nearby?

Palace is one of the Brennan Family restaurants along with Mr. B's, Commander's, Brennan's et al.

Johnny's is good Po Boys in the FQ.

        Johnny White's Sports Bar @ 720 Bourbon St., New Orleans, LA 504 - 524 - 4909.

Cafe Adelaide in Loew's Hotel a few blocks from your place is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. It's a Brennan place also. Good reviews.

        Cafe Adelaide @ 300 Poydras St., New Orleans, LA 504 - 595 - 3305.

Johnny's Po Boys and Johnny White's bar are not the same thing, of course.

          1. re: Littleman

Johnny White's Sports Bar is a mistake. Johnny's Po Boys is right.

            Johnny's Po Boys @ 511 Saint Louis St., New Orleans, LA 504 - 524 - 8129.

      2. Rambla in the Intercontinental for tapas. August has 3 courses for $20 lunch m-f. Herbsaint is fairly close as well.

701 Saint Charles Avenue, New Orleans, LA 70130

217 Camp Street, New Orleans, LA 70130

Rambla is in the International House, not the Intercon

        2. Make a point of having Mr. B's BBQ shrimp for one of your meals. Seriously. Maybe at lunch. Or even as a snack at the bar. It's a unique dish that you won't find anywhere else quite the same.

I concur most heartily on Mr. B's BBQ shrimp! Messy to eat at the bar, perhaps, but a not to be missed delight.

          2. I always walk across the street for a salad at Welty's Deli when I go to New Orleans for work. Great salads!
