Fresh Sweet Corn in the Woburn area

MSCS Jul 16, 2010 06:22 AM

Any good farm stands with good sweet corn in the Woburn area? Concord and Lexington are a bit too far away, so I can't get to Verril or Wilson's easily.

We've had corn from Conners Farm last week and again this week. I like it because it's not that candy sweet stuff but really lovely, tasty old fashioned corn. Don't even have to cook it. Just wave it over the pot of salted boiling water and eat. All right I exaggerated just a tad...

Luna Farm holds farmers markets on Saturdays in the morning in North Reading and their latest newsletter says they have corn.

Are we seeing local corn yet? I'd expect that most corn we're seeing at farmer's markets is being trucked in from somewhere further south.

It does seem early but I was driving up 119 thru Groton and Townshend and a couple of the farm stands indicated that they had their own corn.

everything, including my own garden seems to be 3 weeks ahead of previous years, must be all the heat and perfectly timed rainstorms!

Marini's in Ipswich has had their own corn out since last weekend.

Corn these last 2 weeks has generally been from the Pioneer Valley, which almost always is ahead of the rest of the state because it's a heat sink the summer (that's why they grow tobacco there).

Eastern MA corn should start coming in (the earliest varieties) the coming week, according to farmer's market folks.

I got an email from the Mass Farmers Market email list on July 12th that indicated local corn was already in markets. In Nantucket (where I am right now), the first local corn showed up a couple of days ago. Everything does seem to be early this year.

Wilson in Lexington had a big sign saying that their own corn is in.

(Sorry, MSCS, thought I was replying to MC Slim.)

Russell Farms on Washington St (heading towards Reading's West St) has always been my family's favorite for Corn in the summer!

Agree that Russell is very good. As an alternative, Just one exit north (past Rt 93) on Rt.128 to Rt 28 towards Reading is Colaresso's Farms. Always good veggies (and plants) and I buy the corn a couple of times a week. No disappointments.
