Date night suggestions.
Hi Hounds,
My wife and I have decided to re-start going on date nights. Once every couple of weeks we'd like to go out and try a new (or favorite) place in downtown TO and I'm looking for suggestions.
Background: We live in Brampton and take the GO train in so within a 20 minute walk to Union or along one of the downtown streetcar/subway lines would be great. Preferably no Indian (we live in Brampton) or Chinese but are good with pretty much anything else. We're good with a lively atmosphere, live music etc. as long as we can hear each other (these are fun nights out so no candle lit dark coves please). Food must be good in quality and quantity, no dainty dishes. Looking to keep things under $200 with drinks, bottle of wine and the meals.
Places we like or I have on my list to try:
Rodney's
Black Hoof
Weezie's
Biff''s
Starfish
Chiado
Thanks for the help, looking forward to the suggestions.

Great suggestions! I second Torito, Starfish, Globe, L'Unita and (although much more casual) Negroni.
And I'll add Le Select, Crush Wine Bar, Tutti Matti, Grace, and Foxley.
Still wanting to get to Origin. Enoteca Sociale and Atlantic are both on my radar too.

re: TorontoJo
I would add Harlem, Torito, Koko Share Bar in Yorkville, Caju, Guu, Kaiseki Sakura, Nota Bene, George, Lucien, Niagara Street Cafe, Cava, Mangia e Bevi, Forte, Vertical, Pantheon (for grilled calamari, octopus and fish only), Globe and Zee Grill. I've been to some and long to try the others when I'm in town, including those on your list and TorontoJo's list.
I've been to Rodney's, Biff's and Starfish, plus Torito, Cava, Forte, Vertical, Pantheon and Zee Grill.
If you decide to come into the city during the day, I'd add Negroni for panini at lunch. You can walk off lunch during the afternoon and wind up down on Queen St. for some interesting modern takes on Brazilian food at Caju or else dine at Starfish, one of my personal faves, for dinner (I'm a huge oyster fan).
