Locavore and Romantic Dinner
My girlfriend and I will be visting Chicago for the weekend. Most of the weekend is being spent with friends but we've been able to keep our Saturday night free. We're going to go out for a nice romantic dinner. Would love to find a romantic restaurant that serves local and sustainable food. I'm sure there are a few options out there. Cost is not an object.
Here are some options to get you started that you might enjoy:
Perennial -- just across street from Lincoln Park. Casual, but excellent farm-to-table food
Mado -- Mom and Pop operation with a commitment to local sustainable food. They butcher their own animals and use everything.
BrownTrout -- Just tried it about a month ago. Locally produced food, beautifully prepared. Eager to go back.
North Pond -- beautiful location on a pond in Lincoln Park overlooking the skyline. Award-winning Chef Bruce Sherman does a wonderful job with creative food. The most romantic of the bunch.
2610 North Cannon Drive, Chicago, IL 60614
1647 N Milwaukee Ave, Chicago, IL 60647
That's a good list. North Pond would be my top pick, for its romantic atmosphere as well as the food. If it's for this coming weekend, and you find that they're completely booked for Saturday night (which is possible), consider it for Friday (lunch or dinner) or for Sunday brunch. It's a very special (and uniquely Chicago) place.
I'd add Province which has a wonderful menu, nice room and is very dedicated to local - though you'll find that many Chicago restaurants are.
And if you're in town on Saturday morning, consider a stop at the Green City Market in Lincoln Park for crepes and amazing local produce, cheeses, jams .... etc
