Good farm market in the city on Saturday?

I know a lot of the farm markets save their best stuff for Sunday, but I'm going to be in the city on Saturday and am looking for some really good fruit. Anybody have any suggestions? Pretty much anyplace within reasonable walking distance of center city would be awesome. I visitied Greensgrow Farm last week, and though I loved it to pieces, was hoping for something different this weekend.

In proximity to Center City, I would say that your best bet is Fitler's Square Farmer's Market. For fruit, there is both Brogue and Highland Orchards, which have a variety of fruit. Additionally, the market has natural, local meat as well as locally roasted coffee and bread.

I would not make a special trip to the Headhouse Market on Saturday. It's fine if you live in the neighborhood, but it's quite limited this year on Saturdays.

I agree. I went to Headhouse a few weeks ago on a Saturday, and there was 1 cheese vendor, 1 vegetable vendor, a baker, and the rest of the vendors were selling jewelry, clothes, and crafts. I don't recall seeing much fruit.

There was a sign at the Headhouse Square market today that the Saturday market has been discontinued though some of the vendors will now be coming on Sundays.

i went to headhouse this sunday, and there was plenty to choose from. there was everything from fruit, veggies, talula's table goodies, breads, etc. had to leave b/c i couldn't carry anymore!

The maket at the Piazza is a Saturday market - I haven't been but I have driven by and it has many vendors/farmers (2nd street between Poplar and Girard) - available parking if you are driving and were looking for walking distance so you didn't have to move the car.

Clark Park Farmer's Market at 43rd and Baltimore has a wide selection and great produce.

The Headhouse market is open on Saturday as well as Sunday, the offerings are not as varied on Saturdays though. I haven't been to the HH Saturday market this season so I don't know if there's fruit available.

There's a farmer's market in Rittenhouse on Saturday, but I can't vouch for the "best stuff" part. You should also check the Fair Food Farmstand at the Reading Terminal Market. They usually have really fantastic, local fruit and veggies.
