ISO freshly grated coconut in the Bay Area

Does anyone know where to get freshly grated coconut in the east bay - preferably around Berkeley/Oakland? I tried to do it myself once with a fresh coconut from Berkeley Bowl and it was extremely tough without the right tools - i.e. an Asian style coconut grater. I hear I can pick one of those at Kamei on Clement but I would rather get the coconut grated on demand - tall order I know.

The Ranch 99 Market carries a large selection of fresh frozen grated coconut and milk in 1# bags that I use often. You can squeeze out the milk from the grated and it's fairly close to what you'd have if you did it yourself. hope this helps

All the Indian grocery stores carry the frozen, but as Daveena stated fresh coconut spoils very quickly so I doubt you will find fresh.

I've only seen frozen - I think fresh goes rancid too quickly. Khanh Phonh (429 9th St in Oakland) carries both wide strips of young coconut and finely shredded mature coconut in it's freezer section. Flavor and texture don't seem to suffer from freezing, as far as I can tell.
