Looking for something interesting near West Orange
I'm going to be up that way for one night next week and I would like to find an interesting place to eat at that is different than I'm used to in South Florida. It could be anyplace within 25 miles or so of West Orange. I like Italian/pizza, steak, deli, or barbecue
I'm West Orange raised and now a Montclair resident with a father in South Florida...so here are my choices:
1) Italian - I'm voting Osteria Giotto in Montclair
2) Pizza - Star Tavern for great thin crust bar pie - my fave for 30 years
Ah Pizz - if you like semi authentic neopalitan style, give it a shot. There's a separate thread if you search
Either way, I know it'll be better than what you get in South Florida!!

Do you have a *preference* of ethnic food vs. non- ? That would help us make some recs as well.
I agree that Montclair is a great food town; that said, if you're looking for a great, creative, interesting meal there, I'd send you to Blu. For authentic Neopolitan pizza, I'd send you to Ah' Pizz (also in Montclair). For authentic Greek, to Stamna in Bloomfield (just on the other side of Montclair). For authentic Chinese (Sichuan), I'd send you to Chengdu 1 in Cedar Grove (the town that sits on the corner of Montclair). If you want to eat Spanish or Portuguese food, I'd send you to Newark's (SAFE) Ironbound section. And PS, if you want great homemade ice cream, hit Mark and Julie's in W. Orange for THE. BEST. coffee chip EVER.
As you can see, the options here are crazy good!

If you like Pastrami or Corned Beef, cooked over steam, then try Cooper's Liquor and Deli. Both locations are rough, but believe me when I tell you the sandwiches are worth it. Ask for extra bread and you can easily make two sandwiches out of one.

For Pizza, The Star Tavern is on my list to try. On Tuesdays. they have a $5 pie special
If your looking for something nicer, try LuNello's in Cedar Grove.
I just did a quick calculation and the area you are willing to consider covers nearly 2,000 square miles! Needless to say, there are a lot of restaurants in that area.
My suggestion is to focus on one town, Montclair, which is near West Orange. Montclair is known for its ethnic eateries as well as several upscale spots so I'm sure you can find something different there.
Just do a search on this board on 'Montclair' and take 10-20 minutes looking through the many threads.
