Border Grill - Good Neighbor

As usual, my wife and I were searching for Lunch during our normal Saturday shopping adventure. We just completed the Las Vegas Premium Mall run and I wanted some mexican. Being on the South end of town we thought of Ricardo's and Macayo's. Before getting grief for Macayo's, I have been in town since 1964 and Macayo' has long served me and my family as a mexican food place, including early childhood dinners and meals after high school games (always TCTs). So Macayo's is comfort food for me and hits the spot for the occasional Saturday Lunch and margarita.

Anyway, we chose Border Grill at the Mandalay. It turned out to be a good choice! Border Grill is a lot larger than expected and we were seated in the downstairs dining room with a view of part of the pool. We were offered and accepted the guacamole appetizer. It was quite good and didn't need salt as many do. Our server asked where we were from and we received a pleasant surprise when we responded we were locals. She immediately informed us of the Border Grill Good Neighbor Program.

The Border Grill Good Neighbor offers 15% off of the entire bill, including drinks and monthly email offers. During the meal, we completed our forms. Our server recgonized that my birthday was within a week and offered a complimentary dessert.

Anyway enough about the Good Neighbors program and on to the food. The guacamole was excellent but the chips and dips were also very good. The three salsas were well seasoned and not to hot. We were offered hotter salsas but were happy with the heat levels offered. My lunch entree was the Chile Rellano and was one of the better Rellanos I have recently eaten. My wife ordered the ceviche duo. She preferred the Peruvian ceviche over the the Baja ceviche; it was more flavorful and included pickled onions. The special birthday dessert was either Mexican chocolate pie or flan. Not a major chocolate fan, I went to for the flan. This was one of the best flans I have eaten' creamy, perfect consistency, and very tasty.

Overall
We will include Border Grill on our Saturday lunch rotation.
The service was exceptional and I apperciate a Strip restaurant recgonizing the value of locals.

My experience with the chile relleno was not only was it good but it was a very, very large portion as well. If I remember correctly it was at least 50% bigger than the usual.

Good for Border Grill to give a little extra to locals. Border Grill also participates in Restaurant.com's program. So you can get a $25-off coupon for as little as $2 and as much as $10 with an order of $50 or more. I don't know whether you can combine a restaurant.com coupon with the Good Neighbor program.
