Questions About Quebec City - Bars with Good Food
Hello folks, I was curious about bars that would be great places to settle down for a late afternoon-into-evening of drinks, intermittent food, and good times. So far, I've noted the following places as decent options:
- Le Pape Georges
- SSS
- L'Astral at Loews (for the view)
- Cochon Dingue
However, I wasn't quite sure about some elements of these. In particular, does anybody know how extensive the menu at Georges is? Do they have any fried delights? (poutine, etc) Or is it only sandwiches and cheese? SSS seems maybe a little more upscale than what I'm looking for. Something in the mold of a Belgian beer tavern (replacing beer with wine, perhaps) or an excellent pub would be ideal.
Anybody have some good notes for that? As a side note, we'll be situated around where Rue Saint-Jean hits Rue St. Augustin. We're willing to travel a bit from there though, provided we can catch a cab back later in the evening.
Also, on an unrelated note, do any of the top quality restaurants in Quebec City offer specials on Sundays or midweek nights? I'm trying to decide between a few places for a nice dinner (Panache, Patriarche, Saint Amour, and Toast!), and that could be a decent tiebreaker. Currently, I'm leaning towards Le Patriarche.

I like the Pub Saint Alexandre, specifically for their great selection of beers. I only ever have the steak frites when I'm there but it's yummy. Lots of scotch there as well if you're wanting something stronger after dinner.
Toast! is located in the hotel I always stay at and though I've only had dinner there once, it was excellent. Not sure about off peak deals.
