  1. The closest I've been to Gilbert would be Mariscos Sinaloa and San Diego Bay, neither of which are very close, and I haven't been to either, lately.

Tacos y Mariscos La Sirenita at 961 W Ray Rd Chandler AZ might be worth investigating.

Mariscos Sinaloa is at 3135 S 48th St, Tempe AZ.

    1. I 2nd the recommendation for San Diego Bay, @ Priest and Guadelupe Road, but there is another solid contender at Gilbert Road and McKellips called Mariscos la Playita at the Southeastern corner. I might have the name wrong as its been about half a year, but very nice selection.

You're thinking of the former Restaurante Sinaloa at Gilbert & McKellips. A few months ago they changed their name to "Baja" something (although, the big "Mariscos" sign remains), and we haven't been back to check it out yet. Just last night we talked about going there, but ended up not. Under the former name, we always found the food to be excellent.

I think Baja Joe's is the latest name.

You are correct, it's Baja Joe's Mexican Cantina. We headed over there for dinner tonight. I'm very pleased to report that it's basically the same as it was under the previous name "Mariscos Sinaloa", which is to say very good.

The differences that I noticed were that a couple of the murals appear to have been spruced up, the menus have the new name (but the menu items are very much the same) and the staff has new "Baja Joe's" t-shirts. There's also quite a bit more English spoken, if the lack puts anyone off. We're comfortable either way. As always, everyone is very friendly. The new manager is very hands on, and wanted to make sure everyone was happy with their meals. Both servers confirmed that the cooks are the same as before. One went so far as to say that one of the cooks "tiene el sazon", indicating that he's got the touch/flavor. (feel free to correct my translation)

The food is same or better. Husband loves the arroz marinero - he thought tonight's was better than before (very flavorful fish, shrimp, scallops, calmari, conch and fresh crab with the rice and peppers). My favorite is the Camarones al Chipotle. It wasn't on the new menu, but they made it for me and the manager let me know that it was an error that it wasn't on the menu so they'll be adding it. As rich and delicious as always, and particularly spicy this evening. Very good. Shrimp Ceviche tostada was cold, fresh and flavorful - perfect for such a hot day.
