New Wave for Gladstones??
Has anyone checked out the "revamped" Gladstones yet? Knew Mayor Dickie aligned with SBE & Nazarian, but didn't realize they were already finished. New decor (somewhat) and menu has been reworked, with more fresh items than fried. And they say they didn't increase prices, mmmm hmmmm. Kind of hard to believe, but I may have to check it out, kind of like a morbid curiousity thing.
It can't be any worse than it was before. Not possible- it was absolute garbage. I read the LAT article and I think the issue is the sheer number of meals they have to serve a day- I'm guessing the volume is what is driving this change to frozen meats. I'm sure many of us will end up there at some point or another (visitors in town etc) but doubt many will be making an effort to go there and retry it.

Totally agree, Sheila1. Hard to imagine it being worse than it was. Maybe will try it and have a salad, to avoid paying for frozen meat or fish!! It's just so close to me, I feel like I have to check it out, if only the patio for drinks and an app!!

Ate there two weeks ago with my wife. Beautiful Saturday afternoon around sunset, balcony seat right on the sand and .............terrible service. I mean terrible. The manager actually told us our waitress went home for the day, leaving us to sit there! Turns out she was on a "smoke break". Nice.
We really didn't see any grilled fish on the menu. Like a grilled halibut, swordfish etc. The manager on duty, Andrew was nice and tried to make it better but the sunset dinner was already ruined.
The overpiced limited menu food was crap, service crap = we'll never go back. Too bad, don't waste your time or money.

That sounds like good ole Gladstones! Worst service on the PLANET.

I've never been and now I won't go. Crazy. That place is a gold mine and there is no gold.

Why not eat here: Paradise Cove Cafe in Mailbu. it's owned and run by Bob Morris who built the original Gladstone's and the Jetty and R.J.'s for Ribs...
Remember that great mile long salad bar? Well, for 20$ they have an ACYE seafood/salad bar here. Choose a table outside on the sand or indoors. Great place to "hang out", sun, sleep and people watch. The cafe even has an out door - "take away" bar. Fun place! Go early if on a sunny weekend! :)

I second your recommendation of Paradise Cove Beach Cafe. A great, fun place to eat. Best clam chowder in town and everything else is good. Just don't show up there without a reservation on the weekend.

The Los Angeles Times gave it a good review - 3 stars. http://www.latimes.com/features/food/...

The LA Times did not give Gladstones 3 stars. I think those are user reviews of the article itself.
The Times' website is so awful, I cannot find the last real review, but I think it got maybe 1/2 a star or possibly no stars at all.

Yes, the LA TIMES review dismissed the place.

Horrible. Glad to know everyone else agrees. But, they make a RIDICULOUS amount of money from tourists. They've got some rockin' marketing and a great location, but I'll never set foot in there unless I"m forced.

Is it possible that it is in fact worse under SBE? I checked the reviews on Yelp and there's a whole slew of one-stars from the past couple of months. Anyone been recently?

Went here on a whim with my husband for an appetizer and a cocktail. In my opinion all SBE did to update gladstones was to clear out the peanut shells. The prices are outrageous. I was interested what the MP was for the king crab legs. It took our bartender to ask a server to ask the manager to tell us it was $180! That's for a pound. I guess it doesn't get ordered often for them not to know the price. Skip gladstones till it gets an update worthy of it's location.

no way...$180 per pound has to be a mistake....otherwise these legs better be dusted with gold!

most likely they are frozen too. Still haven't checked it out, but heard they've done away with the blackboard of "fresh" fish specials, and everything else is frozen, coming off of a Sysco truck. Harsh.

$180 a lb....perhaps a name change is in order GALLSTONES or GOLDSTONES

What a joke. And people still go there? I never even thought about going.

Not impressed. Tried their seafood tower. I'll take Mastro's by far!

wow reading all the post below i'll be skipping the frozen meat.
Lobster is where I'll continue to take out of town visitors for the ocean view and plus a ride on the ferris wheel is always fun.

and yet, i still wanna go here, just for a coffee and that slab of chocolate cake, the one they wrapp up as a golden swan. i like that to-go packaging. but other than that i guess it would be a terrible idea to go there.
